Mr. Wole Oshin, GMD @custodianplc shares his career story. He dreamt of being the MD of an insurance company at age 18! Watch the video live stream on @custodianplc's Facebook Page: facebook.com/custodianplc.
At 27, I ensured I had all my professional qualifications. I was a chartered insurer and had an MBA. But, I've learnt in my career that there is no "best" time to start a business or career. Don't give in to fear or #socialmedia peer pressure! ~ Wole Oshin #CustodianMentors
I worked in an insurance company for free for a year, because there were no jobs. In that year, I worked like an entrepreneur and set up a new unit that subsists today. Based on that, my employment was backdated by a year and I received a promotion! ~ Wole Oshin #CustodianMentors
Surprises happen. For instance, a government policy can change your business plan. Strategise and forge ahead. Don't retreat. ~ Wole Oshin #CustodianMentors
What gives me sleepless nights? Ensuring @CustodianPLC's culture remains true to its roots. It's not enough for a business to have a big name. What does the internal culture look like? ~ Wole Oshin #CustodianMentors
Pay attention to the nitty-gritty; the details. Little things matter in a business. If you're so focused on your vision and lose sight of the small things; those items may come back to bite you. ~ Wole Oshin #CustodianMentors
Businesses transition. What you're doing now may be completely different from what you do in future. Sieze opportunities. When you notice demand in an area, explore it. ~ Wole Oshin #CustodianMentors
Don't be afraid of reinventing yourself. Sometimes opportunities lie in a completely different area from what you're doing now. Be prepared to shift gears. ~ Wole Oshin #CustodianMentors
My life story would be incomplete without my upbringing. My father always said, "We may not be rich in finance, but we are rich in values." ~ @obyezeks#MentorsConference
My dad always rang a scripture in my ears daily, "Seest thou a man diligent in his work; he will stand before kings and not mean men." @obyezeks#CustodianMentors
At the age of 10, I made a promise to my parents to take responsibility for my chores at home. It was good training. I would be punished if I didn't keep my word. @obyezeks#CustodianMentors
There must be consequences for bad behaviour. A society that rewards bad behaviour and punishes good is a distorted society. @obyezeks#CustodianMentors
At a very young age, my dad exposed me to reading serious business and political journals. I started reading @TheEconomist at a young age. @obyezeks#CustodianMentors
All my life experiences made me responsible. It also made me open to contrary viewpoints. In a debate, values are sacrosanct but positions are flexible. @obyezeks#CustodianMentors
We must encourage outspokenness in families. If people are not encouraged to debate at home, you can't expect them to speak up on matters of accountability and governance. @obyezeks#CustodianMentors
With collaboration comes great ideas. Being a co-founder of @anticorruption taught me that. Developing the Corruption Performance Index was a high point in my life. @obyezeks#CustodianMentors
As you journey in life, destiny helpers will come your way to guide your path. @obyezeks#CustodianMentors
My focus on public procurement was premised on the knowledge that in developed countries, leaders don't focus on transactional issues like procurement. They focus on governance. @obyezeks#CustodianMentors
I don't do jobs. I do "assignments". Find your assignment in life. Find your purpose. @obyezeks#CustodianMentors
If you have a problem in an area, you solve it by finding an expert qualified to do so, not by being sentimental about the problem. @obyezeks#CustodianMentors
.@obyezeks shares her experience working with the Ministries of Solid Minerals and Education. I'm thinking that we desperately need to document policy history in #Nigeria! #CustodianMentors
The moral of my career story is this: I didn't chase after "career". I didn't "hustle'. I acquired knowledge and I had mentors & parents who helped and inspired me. @obyezeks#CustodianMentors
Those who resent the fact that they are being asked to do too much, will one day be grateful for the experience and exposure. @obyezeks#CustodianMentors
Eternal vigilance by citizens is the price you pay for liberty. Institutionalisation goes beyond agencies and laws. It requires a demand for accountability by citizens. @obyezeks#CustodianMentors
Your individualism must not become dysfunctional. It's good for competition and distinction but it must not hurt collaboration. This generation needs to collaborate. @obyezeks#CustodianMentors
Your vision is on the inside of you. Stop sharing "ideas of ideas". Work out your ideas first. Think through before sharing with others. @LekeAlder#CustodianMentors
When you classify yourself as "youth", when you expect people to do things for you, you limit the heights of your aspiration. @LekeAlder#CustodianMentors
Never be afraid to take on giants. To beat a giant, change the rules of engagement; redefine the game to play to your strengths. @LekeAlder#CustodianMentors
In her book, @NaijaFlyingDr provides a simple guide to policy decisions that should provide better healthcare to ALL Nigerians. #FixNigerianHealthcare
First, the book presents the bad news and some frightening stats that should precipitate a state of emergency, if we had brain in #Nigeria. #FixNigerianHealthcare
LIFE HAPPENS | “Sho, do you cook?”, my date asked. I replied jauntily, “I used to but not anymore. I now have access to a chef and can afford to order what I like eating.” #Thread#Life#Relationships
My date followed up by asking, “If your boyfriend asked you to cook for him, would you?” I grinned, as I realised my date was sadly playing from a script. I replied, “I don’t have a guy I like who’s asking me to cook, so I can’t say.”
I think my date thought I was being coy. But, I wasn’t. I was just being honest. A while ago, I decided to deal in reality and not hypotheticals. I have tried and failed to control life. All my effort got me was an anxiety problem and therapy.
#HEALING, #MEDICINE & OTHER MATTERS: One thing I struggle with and continue to talk to God about, is the ratio of people he heals versus those healed by medicine or those who eventually die.
Let's discount specific waves of the Spirit, for a moment - the ministries of Kathryn Kuhlman and other documented faith healers. Instead, let's do a simple headcount of those who get miraculously healed in an average church.
We may find that less people are healed supernaturally than those who die, or those who get healed through medicine.
"God, I want my future back." Those were the words I whispered to God two weeks ago, while I was going through the greatest health scare of my life. #Thread#Health#Life
In the midst of the tests and various medical consultations, it occurred to me that my life had stopped. My symptoms limited my movements and where I could go. So, I couldn't plan and I couldn't project forward.
Things like traveling or dating went out of the window. I was stuck on finding a solution to my health challenge. My tests are still ongoing. I'm still seeing doctors, but we think we now know what's wrong. And so, I am hopeful.

Yesterday, I thought about how difficult it is for many of us to concatenate being Christian with enjoying life. #Thread#Christianity#Christian
Somehow we imagine one cannot be Christian and sexual, Christian and metrosexual, Christian and gourmand. When we are forced to make a choice, we either choose active Christian and boring or passive Christian and epicurean.
I am so alive. I am culturally exposed and enjoy living. But, there is a centredness to me. Because God lives within me, he modulates everything I do.
