Just back from #ShutItDownDC. quick thoughts:

1. The unprecedented protection neo-Nazis continue to receive from police is unconscionable. I am from DC, have lived here my whole adulthood and have never seen a protestor group tended to the way these white supremacists have been.
2. @wmata has some explaining to do. After repeatedly stating that K*ssler & his Nazi pals wouldn’t get special treatment from Metro, all 20 or so of them (lol) got their own train car to ride to Foggy Bottom. Portions of Foggy Bottom’s platform were blocked so they could exit.
3. I saw the police guarding the front section of the neo-Nazi group shoving journalists backwards as they tried to get shots of the Nazis marching. It was unnecessary and dangerous.
4. I haven’t caught up on twitter yet but I’m sure it’s obvious that the neo-Nazis were massively outnumbered by peaceful counter-protesters and left, soaked in DC summer rain and abject humiliation, in a special police van before their stupid rally was even scheduled to start.
5. Neo-Nazi turnout was pathetic today because a) they can’t walk around waving their gun-dicks around in DC and b) there were massive social consequences for many white supremacists in Cville last year.

Continue making it impossible for Nazis to exist unbothered in society.
6. Thank you to everyone who showed up in DC today and in Cville this weekend. Tonight I’m thinking of Heather Heyer, who lost her life for showing up. I hope we can always remember her and her courage, and never stop showing up.

Me when I hear Mitch McConnell’s voice
McConnell says that the Senate is voting to “make a statement” that “uncorroborated allegations can’t be used to ruin an American’s life”
McConnell just basically said Dr. Ford’s allegations were manufactured by “the resistance” because nothing else was working

Grassley both-sidesing right off the bat: “Both Dr. Blasey Ford and Kavanaugh have had a terrible couple of weeks.” Did Kavanaugh have to move out of his home due to death threats or...?
Grassley digging in on Feinstein keeping Dr. Blasey Ford’s letter confidential, right in front of Dr. Ford WHO REQUESTED FEINSTEIN DO SO, and not at all subtly implying that Democrats leaked the letter to media.
Chuck Grassley all week: “we hired a lady lawyer to depoliticize these very serious proceedings which we are definitely taking seriously”

Chuck Grassley today: opens hearing with heavily political speech blaming Democrats for everything that’s gone wrong with Kavanaugh

The White House tried to downplay the allegation against Kavanaugh as an “11th hour attempt to delay his confirmation,” yet Judiciary Republicans knew about it for long enough to be able to round up and get a letter from 65 women he went to high school with. 🤔
(I should’ve said “who knew him in high school” since he went to an all boys high school. That actually makes this stupid letter even less credible)
Senate Republicans knew about an attempted rape allegation against their chosen Supreme Court nominee and instead of speaking up about it, they spent the summer covering it up while orchestrating a PR campaign for him. That’s how much the Republican party hates women.

They moved millions of dollars from FEMA to ICE as hurricane season was ramping up
If you’re wondering how this could happen: both agencies are under DHS, and this level of corruption is much easier to get away with when you create a massive umbrella agency with little oversight, and absorb/create a bunch of smaller agencies into it.
Kirstjen Nielsen HAS TO GO and it becomes even more imperative that Democrats take at least one chamber of Congress in November because DHS needs to be endlessly investigated, heavily audited, and yes, ultimately dismantled.
