In 1992, the year before #NAFTA’s passage, the US had a $5.6 billion trade surplus with Mexico. In 2004, under NAFTA, it reversed with a vengeance; $45.1 billion more in goods came in from Mexico, an unprecedented $50.7 billion swing to deficit. gregpalast.com/how-democrats-…
The macroeconomic modeling I did in my old academic days suggests that, roughly, such a loss of income to the USA costs half a million jobs. You can quibble with the estimate, call it 300,000 jobs or 900,000. But a $50.7 billion crocodile is difficult to disguise as a pet gecko.
American workers could have done worse, of course, and they did. The trade deficit with Canada went from a small $8 billion before #NAFTA to a Katrina-sized $73 billion in 2005. gregpalast.com/how-democrats-…
Real wages fell on both sides of the border, or, more correctly, all three sides, as US, Canadian & Mexican wages were hammered. In Mexico, laborer’s pay per hour dropped 40% in the first 7 years after #NAFTA’s passage. gregpalast.com/how-democrats-…
At the same time, the wage-wealth jaw opened wide in all three nations as productivity rose, lifting the value of owners’ equity by several trillion dollars. #NAFTA
However, under the new #NAFTA deal, Mexico is going to be required to raise auto worker wages to $16 dollars an hour and a car is going to have to have 40% of its content made by those workers. washingtonpost.com/news/postevery…
Andrés Manuel López Obrador — aka AMLO, the Bernie Sanders of Mexico — called Trump and Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross’ bluff. AMLO said yes, we’ll take that right now.
Wilbur Ross almost fell over dead, because at his 8 auto part plants in Mexico, he's only paying workers $4 and $5 an hour. So he’s going to have to quadruple wages. #NAFTA
They did the deal with the outgoing President of Mexico, Enrique Peña Nieto, just so #AMLO doesn’t get the credit, but it was AMLO’s negotiators calling the shots in the room. gregpalast.com/how-the-bernie…
People think it’s #Trump’s deal — it’s not, the credit belongs to #AMLO. And the left should be cheering, because this is a win for the working class, but the Democrats have a long history of failing them. gregpalast.com/how-democrats-…

My lawyer had to threaten #Georgia Secretary of State #BrianKemp with a lawsuit to force him to turn over the names of over half a million voters whose citizenship rights he quietly extinguished. gregpalast.com/gops-brian-kem…
My database expert went through #BrianKemp's #Georgia Purge List name by name and found:
1 Thousands who supposedly left the state but remain in Georgia
2 Thousands who moved from one end of town to another
3 Someone who moved from one apartment to another in the same building
Don’t assume you’re OK because you’ve not moved and have voted in the same place for years. States have been conducting deep purges, and many perfectly valid voter registrations have disappeared — often without notice. rollingstone.com/politics/polit…
For example, in #Georgia in 2017, GOP Secretary of State #BrianKemp removed 591,000 voters from the rolls—that’s 1 in 10 registrations in a single year!
Rather than face me in court, #Georgia Secretary of State #BrianKemp coughed up the first and last names and addresses of every one of the 591,000 voters he purged from the rolls in 2017. Notably, however, he left out the voter’s middle names. How curious. gregpalast.com/why-i-am-suing…
#BrianKemp also refused — despite the requirements of transparency in the National Voter Registration Act of 1993 — to state in detail WHY he’s purged each of the monstrously large number of #Georgia voters. gregpalast.com/why-i-am-suing…#StopTheSteal
#Florida study finds "mail ballots were 10 times more likely to be rejected than votes cast at early #voting sites or on #election day" and "ballots cast by youngest voters, blacks and Hispanics were much more likely to be rejected."
STUDY: "Younger and racial and ethnic minority voters casting Vote By Mail ballots were at least twice as likely as older and white voters to have their VBM ballot rejected in the presidential elections of 2012 and 2016." aclufl.org/en/publication…
We have a massive non-count of votes in America. Over one million ballots nationwide — in any election — are never counted. They are disqualified for cockamamie technical reasons. gregpalast.com/have-you-check…
People worry about getting their vote stolen by a machine, so they mail it in. But you just went double or nothing with your vote, because that makes it easier for them. The number one way #KrisKobach won the #KansasPrimary was by disqualifying ballots that were mailed in.
