1/ NEW: Federal authorities in VA announced today that 4 men have been arrested in connection with the violence at Unite the Right in Charlottesville in Aug. 2017. We’ve reported on 3 of those men before. We first identified Tom Gillen & Ben Daley in this video last October.
2/ We ID’ed another of the men indicted today, Michael Miselis, back in July, when we discovered he was working for a Defense Contractor with a US government security clearance. propub.li/2OA98wQ
3/ One day after our story published w/ @frontlinepbs, Miselis lost his job with Northrop Grumman. When we confronted him, Miselis told us we “had the wrong guy.” propub.li/2IAhXks

1/ Using a theory of his own devising, Dr. Michael Holick is a go-to expert witness for parents accused of abusing their children. Many in the medical community are critical.

Watch arguments from both sides, from Dr. Holick, as well as Dr. John Leventhal:
2/ Renowned scientist-turned expert witness Dr. Michael Holick helps alleged abusers avoid prison and regain custody of the babies they were accused of harming. Here’s what he has to say.
3/ “It would be nice to have some scientific background to support the unproven or fallacious hypotheses — But that’s not stopping people right now.” says Dr. John Leventhal, medical director of the Yale-New Haven Children’s Hospital Child Abuse Program.

1/ You know that 49 people were killed in the shooting at Pulse nightclub.

What you don’t know: Even though police asked the Orlando Fire Dept. to come in and help get victims to safety and hospitals, paramedics stayed outside the club.

For hours.

propub.li/2Q4FOLG
2/ Why didn’t those first responders enter quicker?

They didn’t have a plan.

They didn’t have the right training.

And their attempts to prepare got lost in bureaucracy, even though they’d been working on a plan for a situation like Pulse for years.
3/ They’d been considering a plan that was like what cities around the country were adopting:

Specialized teams of medics, guarded by police, wearing bulletproof vests, would pull out victims before a shooter was caught.

On the night of Pulse, that policy was unfinished.

1/ Q: Who gets access to cutting-edge cancer medications in the US?

A: Mostly white people.

We crunched the numbers. propub.li/2xHHUKf
2/ Who doesn’t? Generally...

-African Americans
-Native Americans

According US_FDA data, in trials for 24 of the 31 cancer drugs approved since 2015, fewer than 5% of the patients were black.

African Americans make up 13.4% of the U.S. population.
propub.li/2xHHUKf
3/ Here’s another example: 1 in 5 Americans with blood cancer, like multiple myeloma, are black.

In one study @ProPublica looked at, only 1.8% of the participants were black.

1/ This year we’re looking at how the government controls flooding along rivers.

For 100+ years, the Army Corps of Engineers built levees to keep water out of communities and farms. Here's how that works — and how it can make flooding worse:

propub.li/2CuL3lY
2/ Then we looked at how it works in the real world, when the Corps has to decide who gets protected and who gets left behind.

propub.li/2AMvXaH
3/ And in some cases, the Corps can't stop communities from protecting themselves at the expense of others:
