In Michigan, Detroit’s poor residents have faced massive water shutoffs, drawing criticism from human rights activists, Flint had contaminated water, and most recently, Detroit Public Schools shut off water due to high lead tests:
Aug. 29 report: “The Detroit school district is shutting off drinking water to all of its schools after test results found elevated levels of lead or copper in 16 out of 24 schools that were recently tested.” freep.com/story/news/edu…
The Flint water crisis gets more attention nationally, but the Detroit water shutoffs were also significant, leading to what some researchers say was a spike in diseases and hardships for thousands of poor. Even the UN was looking into it. 2016 report: freep.com/story/news/loc…

Sec. Pompeo tweeted this today and it was retweeted by the State Dept. He says the State Dept. has “swagger,” which he says is part of Anglo-American tradition.

It reads at the bottom: “Follow Sec. Pompeo for Instagram posts with swagger”
This reminds me of that Dave Chapelle sketch during the Iraq war about how the Bush administration was like street gangsters:
This administration is so racist and dumb that it can’t even acknowledge the fact that “swagger” is used now mainly because of parts of urban black hip-hop culture that made it popular. Instead, the State Dept. is acting like they got it from Anglo American culture:

U.S. Sen. John McCain happened to die on the birthday of the late Vo Nguyen Giap, Vietnam's top military leader, who defeated France and US. In 2013, after Giap died, McCain wrote about him in Wall Street Journal op-ed, recalling two encounters with him: wsj.com/articles/he-be…
U.S. Sen McCain's 2013 op-ed in WSJ on Giap after he died was criticized by some for being seen as racist towards Vietnamese and Asian people. One response to the op-ed in a Vietnamese publication slammed McCain: thanhniennews.com/commentaries/w…
Vietnamese Gen. Giap, who defeated Japan, France, and then the U.S., was seen by experts as one of the top military strategists of the 20th century.

U.S. Sen. John McCain deserves praise for promoting racial, religious tolerance and civility, especially inside a political party that often had intolerant leaders. McCain often criticized bigotry and tried to tamp down extremism. And it was seen in his personal interactions.
Here is one example of US Sen. John McCain’s expression of tolerance, from last year. And during the 2008 campaign, he would tell crowds not to hate Obama or make irrational, bigoted remarks about him:
In Jan. 2008, I attended a campaign rally with Sen. John McCain in Clawson, MI. I asked him about concerns some had about his rhetoric on "radical Islam."
He told me: "I want to assure the Muslim community in Michigan & around this country that we respect an honorable religion."

Shri Thanedar said some have suggested he run for Detroit Mayor:

“I campaigned a lot in Detroit and I won the city of Detroit,” he said. “I’m very thankful and proud and appreciate that our work in the city paid off. It shows me as their candidate.” freep.com/story/news/pol…
In Democratic primary for Michigan Governor, election results show Shri Thanedar won the cities of Detroit, Inkster, and Pontiac.

He also won black-majority precincts in River Rouge, Ecorse, and the heavily black precincts of north Flint, 1-14.

Shri Thanedar "met with Whitmer and her running mate, Detroit activist Garlin Gilchrist II, on Monday to map out how he might help the campaign."

“And I’m going to have a fundraiser for her in my home. I’ll be fully supportive of her candidacy,” he said.
