Short lap. Check out the horn on that caterpillar, though!
I was gonna start a 🦆 party hashtag, but there was some weird stuff associated with that. Seriously, always check before you start a hashtag.
There was some serious jostling and splashing going on. My guess is it’s the feisty young adults, testing their feathers.
... you can hear the slapping sound of the wings in that previous video. A swan flew a few meters away from me. Each of those long wingtip feathers whistles at its own pitch, like wind blown flutes.
Across the river ... #stein #wachau headed back to the office. More #climatechange writing. Sometimes I feel like it’s changing so fast that #journalism isn’t keeping up.
Late strawberries from the #Waldviertel- grower told me this is the latest he’s ever harvested ...
... meanwhile, some of the wine growers on our street say it was the earliest harvest ever for some 🍇 sorts.
Traffic jam in the alley, record early grape harvest ...
Let’s throw this morning’s sunset into the feed to go back to our theme, the never ending summer of #globalwarming in Europe. And don’t forget, it’s a series of summers. This year breaks the summer heat record of 2003 ...
Thinking about this, I decided to do some #assistedmigration for this 🐛 they need all the help they can get. The weird climate has messed up #pollinators. google.com/amp/s/insidecl…
The 2003 heatwave killed more than 30,0000 people in Europe, with some studies finding 2X as much “excess mortality.” Older people were especially vulnerable. unisdr.org/files/1145_ewh…
2018 heat not quite as extreme, but long and dry. This year, northern Europe was most affected, and last year, it was the south, with a #heatwave so extreme they named in Lucifer, made 10 times more likely by #globalwarming insideclimatenews.org/news/27092017/…
Heat waves also extend to the see. Here's a look at the SSTs for the #Mediterranean for August. Very warm, and now, a 'Medicane' may be forming, with flood warnings in Sardinia.
.@EricHolthaus did a nice job of describing 'medicanes' for @PacificStand last year, and this could be a similar event. Are they becoming more common?
.@NASAEarth also has a good image of the cyclonic spiral in the Med. Wonder if Odysseus? earthobservatory.nasa.gov/images/89034/c…
The current storm is forming in one of the known hotspots. Here's a nice @physorg_com breakdown. phys.org/news/2017-11-m…
And more info from another source on the developing #medicane ... why not give it a hashtag? And how about #euroweather?
These things are no joke. They kill people, as @NPR reported. npr.org/sections/thetw…
Greenhouse gas emissions have consequences, and our hottest months are getting hotter, via @rahmstorf and @mashable
Some areas were hit hard by #drought, with nearly total crop losses.
And the extreme heat in the UK cost lives. theguardian.com/society/2018/a… #GlobalWarming

mountains, snow, avalanches and climate at #ISSW2018
Now sitting in on a session with @oeav on excessive ski area development in Tirol.
Lots of ski areas in Tirol, more lifts planned as resorts try to outrace #globalwarming. But it’s too much, says @oeav - seele-der-alpen.at
