Liverpool City Council tonight adopted "Standing With Our Trans Community"

The motion & mayor were, I believe, unfair, abusive,in breach of Equality Act 2010 & neglectful of their proper duties. 1/15

The motion is, to put it politely, a mish-mash. It includes wild allegations, conclusions about criminal offences & random moves to “encourage” more “gender neutral” loos. It also states as a fact that “transwomen are women” without attempting to define those words. 2/15

Liverpool ReSisters are accused of:

1. a hateful campaign
2. defacing public art works and buildings
3. stickers regarding Trans women and gender recognition
4. not recognising transwomen as women
5. by implication guilty of “hate crime” 3/15

Important to note here what Liverpool ReSisters @LiverpoolReSis1 have actually done. Put up lots of small stickers saying “Women Don't Have Penises”. Put up a website about why they oppose elements of trans activism. That's about it. 4/15

Link to show some of these stickers on the iron man statues, and a tourist board or two. No permanent damage, tiny stickers which can be unstuck, stating what many think is the blindingly obvious.

Problem #1 The Mayor himself @mayor_anderson has strongly encouraged the police in Liverpool to investigate the sticker crimes committed. It is not remotely appropriate, therefore, for a motion to be adopted which concludes crimes have been committed. 6/15

#2 Describing small stickers saying “Women Don't Have Penises” as hateful, defacing public art, & by implication hate crime, is ludicrous. It is exaggerated beyond all reason. It doesn't say what actually happened. Hyperbole & over-reaction. 7/15

#3 Under the Equality Act 2010, sex is a protected characteristic. So is religion, faith, or belief. The motion & Mayor openly discriminated & attacked women who think that sex is important, and who don't accept the faith / religion / belief that a person can change sex.

#4 Under EqA 2010 public authorities have a duty to promote equality, protect discrimination on the basis of protected characteristics, and consider evidence, reports, analysis, & impact assessments. Nothing to suggest any of this has been done about gender neutral loos. 9/15

#5 Motion & Mayor both imply revenge. You posted those stickers, so we'll encourage gender neutral loos! That'll learn you! This is utterly inappropriate in a public authority. Mixed-sex facilities have an significant impact on many, many people 10/15

#6 In his angry rant, the Mayor said “ If you’d approached it in a different way and you wanted to have a sensible conversation and discuss it with us then we’d’ve listened”. That's not remotely appropriate. Mixed sex facilities aren't a Mayor v LiverpoolReSis1 issue. 11/15

#7 There is evidence that mixed sex (because this “gender neutral” stuff is daft, it's mixed sex) facilities have an adverse impact on women & girls. Has this been considered in any way? There are many reports, concerns, FOI requests indicating problems. 12/15

#8 I've tried to transcribe the Mayor's rant. It's pretty incoherant. Bizarrely it accuses LiverpoolReSis1 of bullying etc, in an bullying, aggressive & nasty way. The Mayor is the one with the platform, power, anger and aggression in this situation, I firmly believe. 13/15

#9 Overall this looks to me like thoughtless virtue-signalling, no regard to evidence, no safe-guarding, no consideration of public law duties, potentially defamatory, interfering with on-going police investigation, & possible contempt of court. 14/15

#10 Perhaps Mayor & Council feel smug that they've “won” over #stickerwoman but if so, it's a pyrrhic victory. The motion and Mayor's speech were inappropriate, & profoundly disturbing. END. 15/15
