This gentleman made a factually incorrect point about McCarthy.
He made the mistake of stating McCarthy claimed to have a list of 205 Communists, when in fact he did not.
I tried to help him by showing what he got wrong, with sources, and he blocked me. That's odd.
In fact, McCarthy said he had the names of 57 card-carrying Communist or Communist allies who still worked in the government. A close examination of sources at the time reveals this. The idea that he said 205 was #FakeNews used to hurt McCarthy.
McCarthy didn't even want to name the Communists in public. He wanted a private Congressional session, "If we should label one man a Communist when he is not a Communist I think it would be too bad... I think the sensible thing to do would be to have an executive session..."
I very strongly recommend reading this book. The attacks on McCarthy were #FakeNews and #DeepState issues.
A study of this topic provides tremendous insight for understanding today.
Democrat enemies of McCarthy were demanding he make the names of Communists public, Senator Lucas, "The Senate and the public are entitled to know who that man is... The sooner the senator can name these names, the better off we will all be."
Lucas again: "If I have anything to say about it, it will be in the open where very individual in America, every newspaperman, can attend, so that they will know definitely as soon as possible just who is being charged and who is not being charged with being Communist."
You really can't make this stuff up. McCarthy is endlessly smeared today as recklessly naming people but the record clearly shows he didn't want to name people publicly until starting off with cautious private sessions. The Democrats forced it public.
A lot of people disliked Bolton cause of Iraq. I'd say his role has been completely misunderstood.
He favored killing Saddam. What if we hadn't killed him, and Iraq became like NK? Not an easy call. Saddam was far worse than media says: he supported terror, jihad, instability
