Hi #CPC18, I’ve got a few thoughts for you.
All this shenaniganary about the border in NI is a wee tad confusing, so let’s chat.

As the Conservative *& Unionist* Party, you must understand the damage your doing to the Union with Brexit.

No form of Brexit is good for the NI situation. Brexit, in every form, puts the Union at risk. #CPC18

But then again, not much was thought of those outside Britain, was there? That’s why you called it British-Exit, instead of UK-Exit. (NI is part of the UK, but not a part of Britain.)
Basically words matter, & the semantics of this tell us you don’t care. But I digress.

There is a reason that support for a border poll is rising, and there are legitimate fears about a return to a hard border. #CPC18

I know people who traveled across the border daily between Donegal & Derry for college. At least 30’000 people cross the border daily.
It’s important both practically & politically that the border is open. #CPC18

I don’t think people outside of NI understand that the tensions are still very much present, and that the conflict never really stopped.

Brexit is the match to light that bonfire. #CPC18

People died over that border, and more faced brutality from the British Army & the police on that border. #CPC18

My da still feels fear when he hears a scouse accent, bc the soldiers stationed at the crossing he’d use were mostly from Liverpool.

He remembers the fear for his life bc of his surname, & he’s still effected by it. #CPC18

It’s raw. These issues are still very present for the people who lived through it, & the pain echoes from the older generation to mine.

If it weren’t for the EU funded cross-community projects, things would be so much worse. #CPC18

This is not ‘project fear’, it’s project facts.
That’s why the people of Northern Ireland need a #PeoplesVote. Because we’ve no guarantees on the border, and a return to any sort of border is a step backwards for peace & progress at home. #CPC18

I’ll finish with this, an excellent point made by @PatricKielty in his thread about this earlier in the week;

If you care so much about NI being totally aligned with the rest of the UK, @theresa_may @DominicRaab, where is your support for marriage equality, & a woman’s right to choose?
