#HomesFirst Reaching my limit now. After numerous recent minor (and not so minor) instances have just found my flat door open.
Was bulk cooking in the kitchen for the month when I noticed the arrival of the latest noise-merchants upstairs was louder than usual. /1
Walked into the hall and my flat door is open.
One of them had clearly been trying the handles of all the flats rather than just the one they were renting as an STL.
Hadn't even bothered to close it when after they opened it and heard a noise inside (music on the PC) /2
This may seem like nothing to anyone who doesn't live in a flat in a residential block beset by the plague of #HolidayLets. But imagine if these arseholes had NOT heard a noise..? #STL flats represent a SERIOUS SECURITY THREAT to the lives and homes of those who LIVE in /3
residential blocks. Prior to the STLs appearing here there were eleven sets of people with a key to the stair. Eleven flats. Now that number is potentially infinite. They aren't restricted keys; anyone can copy them. So every time a STL profiteer hands a tourist /4
our front door key, that's a potential exponential growth of people having access to our stair, our home.
And don't even THINK of attempting to shift the onus onto those who LIVE here. When I'm in my flat I don't lock its door /5
because I know the block is theoretically inaccessible to strangers. Or should be. The only people inside would be my neighbours, people I know by sight and name.
A stranger does not have either an invitation or a RIGHT to so much as TOUCH any of the flats /6
they've no business with. So finding my door open tells me that those who don't in any circumstances *belong* here have at the very least serious entitlement issues and quite likely nefarious inclinations to other peoples lives and property. /7
#HomesFirst Residents of blocks with #HolidayLet STLs in them don't get to vet or even *know* the histories or criminal records of those complete strangers that these absentee landlords are happy to foist upon us, to line their pockets at the expense of our security & safety. /8
Would make such a *nice* change if a bunch of vested-interest landlord/property-developer politicians stopped thinking about their own bulging bank-balances & acted BEFORE the inevitable disaster.
