1/ GA voters-- One of the guys debating today @ Atlanta Press Club will be next Sec. of St. Hear their views before you vote. New SOS will recommend the new voting system. Live feed at 10am. fb.com/TheAtlantaPres…, and GPB.org and GPBNews.org. #gapol
2/ I hope that the panel asks hard questions like:
--What is a new voting system realistic for GA? (Any answer less than 3 years shows lack of understanding of the needs.)
--Should counties adopt paper ballots for election day in Nov.?
--Hand marked paper ballots or barcodes?
3/ --Should GA have a uniform voting system or should it permit competition to determine best system for each county from short list of certified systems?
--Should the SOS office continue to program the ballots and tabulations for elections?
--How did GA get into this mess?

1/ GA Voters--ACTION ALERT!--Voters must demand paper ballots for Election Day voting at the polls!! Contact county Bd. of Elections & Bd. of Commissioners. Insist that they honor voters' constitutional voting rights and not use DREs in the election. See thread for instructions.
2/ After the Court ruled that DREs impose harm on voters' constitutional voting rights, the counties seemed to ignore it, and somehow concluded that violating the Constitution is okay. (Fulton and a few large counties claimed that they couldn't handle paper and it would...
3/ cause them to disenfranchise people by closing down polling places. Hence the Court did not force paper ballots.) Vast majority of counties can easily handle the change and have very few early vote centers. We sent this to county officials today.conta.cc/2OQic0I
1/ GA VOTERS--Closed door meeting held by @BrianKempGA and his handpicked "multi-partisan" commission re: new voting system to be recommended to 2019 legislature. This meeting violates Georgia's Open Meeting Laws in an egregious manner. This man is running for Governor! Geez.
2/ The law requires a PUBLIC NOTICE at least 24 hours before the meeting, and a manner for the public to attend an in-person meeting or listen in to a telephone conference of the committee. See their plan for their non-public meeting here. To discuss prior presentations, etc.
GEORGIA! (Particularly Republicans). I was shocked watching the SOS debates today. Take the 1/2 hr. it takes to watch. I don't endorse candidates, but I will call out outrageous positions. It's clear that @VoteBradRaff has been paying NO attention to ... facebook.com/TheAtlantaPres…
2/ the national story of GA's failed election security and the need for verifiable voting system is completely lost on him. Deflects and changes the subject, and then recommends barcode balloting instead of hand marked paper ballots!
3/ He goes further and ridiculously claims that a new voting system can be installed by this the Fall of 2019!! Any one who knows anything about voting systems and Georgia knows that it is at least a 3 year mission.
GA Voters--if you want to protect the Nov. election, isn't it time to have YOUR elevator moment with your county Board of Elections? And your County Commissioners? They can choose paper ballots for Nov. even if it is only Election Day polling places if Early voting is "too hard."
2/ The Court agreed that the touchscreen system is unreliable and flawed. And agreed that there is no law requiring it. Counties are free to use paper ballots. Court agreed that DREs violate constitutional rights. Why should your county violate your voting rights???
3/ The Court's ruling should have been the jolt that caused voters to demand paper from their boards and for all boards to do all they can to avoid violating voters' rights, and stop using the DREs. If they truly cannot do it by early voting, why not do it on Election Day?
1/ GA Voters, If you live in one of the 125 counties with only one early voting site, your county has NO EXCUSE to fail to adopt paper ballots in November! Demand that your local officials do so and honor your constitutional rights! Ck. your county here. mbernhard.com/ev.pdf
2/ The Court ruled that there is no law to prevent counties from moving to paper ballots, and that paper ballots should be used as soon as possible. ASAP is now for most counties! There is no excuse for using machines that are unconstitutional for election officials' convenience.
3/Example--Coweta Co. admits that they could have done it. There is NO EXCUSE for forcing unconstitutional DRE machines on voters, when it is totally feasible to adopt paper ballots. times-herald.com/news/2018/09/c…
1/ GA voters planning to vote a mail absentee ballot--Be sure to protect your vote this way--
a) Keep a copy of your application for a mail ballot. Sign it carefully with your best signature (needs to match your records and ballot envelope after you vote.)
(See thread)
2/ Track the progress of your application on mvp.sos.ga.gov/MVP/mvp.do 3/ Put your ballot in secure place when it arrives. Don't lose it. 4/ Print sample ballot to make tentative decisions/notes --mvp.sos.ga.gov/MVP/mvp.do
5/Carefully mark your ballot when you vote
6/ Ask for new ballot if you make error. Scanners cannot read notes. 7/ Be sure to check postage needed.8/ Mail, or better to hand deliver, to your local election office. (NOT accepted at polling place!) Must ARRIVE by Nov. 6. (Postmarks DO NOT count!)
