(1) Live tweeting the Senate tonight. @SenateMajLdr has to file cloture by a deadline tonight in order to hold the #ConfirmKavanaugh vote Saturday.

(2) Cloture in the Senate is a procedural step that you can learn more about at the link below. The senate.gov website is the best resource for learning about Senate procedure and a lot more. Same for house.gov.

(3) Watching live Senate floor proceedings is boring as hell, as they pass bills for naming Post Offices, & so on. But every now & then, they confirm a SCOTUS judge. And this time, they will affirm our great #BillOfRights #DueProcess & the hard-won #RuleOfLaw. Seriously. 🇺🇸🦅
(4) I'm working through videos of speeches earlier in the day. Here's a short clip from @SenateMajLdr's opening remarks.

Most of the speeches were by the Dimms, so that makes my task easier. I've learned there's little point in listening to them.

(5) See that? I have Jeff Merkeley (D-OR) on mute. Since he has the will of the people expressed in 2016 on mute.
(6) We're waiting to see if Mitch will file cloture tonight. The Senate remains in session. Filing cloture by midnight would allow a procedural vote Friday then the confirmation vote Saturday. Otherwise it will be Sunday or later.
(7) This suggests to me that cloture could well be filed tonight, if Mitch intends for the report to be reviewed in the intervening two days. Makes sense.

2 hours, 40 minutes to go.

(8) Sen Ben Sasse (R-NB) has taken to the floor. First speech in about 3 hours, by my count. Mentions the confirmation votes will "probably" be taken this weekend. Says that there is lobbying going on rn. Says he had urged POTUS to nominate a woman.

(9) As usual, Ben Sasse tries to please everyone and ends up pissing people off. I'm sure he will still vote to #ConfirmKavanaugh though.

False equivalency logical fallacies galore.
(10) Ben Sasse infantilized all women in that speech. He is sexist & paternalistic. And not once did he mention the male survivors of sexual assault, or right of male & female accused to #DueProcess.

Democrats will use his words to beat us around the head with. Thanks, Ben.

(3) Sen Grassley is 85 years old. (Democrats have senators around that age, too.)

Today he had to hold onto a Capitol Police officer to reduce the risk of a reporter knocking him over. This has to stop. Senators must return to being able to walk around freely at work.

As an ex-liberal woman born in 1970, I feel I can offer an informed perspective on the issues raised by Ketterer in his statement.

The issues are relevant to #MeToo #HimToo & everything.

(2) Ketterer writes as a man who carries immense guilt for having had secret extramarital sexual relations with Swetnick 25 years ago.

His statement is full of comments about it, but it's not the main issue. His status as a 9yo male child sex abuse survivor will be ignored.
(3) Today's Dems are ABSOLUTELY fixated on sexual crimes that are male on female.

To the exclusion of every other type of sex crime.

I know many men who have been sexually abused by a woman, or a man, in adulthood, or childhood. I know many male domestic abuse survivors.
