a. For those of you with Dem Senators who have confirmed they will vote NO on Kavanaugh and will NOT flip (e.g. Harris; Casey)
You CAN call and affirm their stances one final time. It doesn't have to elaborate, but template script here if you need it.
Remember, the rule of thumb is to call when you have new information to add to previous calls. Your new info is McConnell teeing up the vote.
However. IF you've called/emailed/faxed, your time is better spent rallying your personal networks to call. Everyone you know.
b. For those of you represented by red state Democrats (Tester/Manchin/Heitkamp)
- Get Tester to affirm his no vote, like Donnelly did this morning. I doubt Tester will flip, but affirmation is critical right now. Don't take chances.
5. If you're a DC resident who wants to get involved, follow and contact @HerdOnHill, sharpish.
They help deliver letters for constituents to critical senators. This is another way to help facilitate contact to key swing votes, even if they don't represent you.
* Don't call Senators who don't represent you.
* At this point, it doesn't matter if you call DC or district offices. Just try to through however you can. Try EVERY number.
* If you can't call, email/fax/use @resistbot. Just make contact.
Don't give up. Don't despair. There are more of us than them. But we need all hands on deck NOW.
Please don't sit this out. Don't assume a Justice Kavanaugh can be impeached. We need YOU to stop him.
Starting to see the (inevitable) hot takes come out on why the Senate Democrats couldn't stop Kavanaugh.
Say it with me now: 🗣 They don't have the majority. 🗣
But good news. We can change that. Here's a quick refresher.
1. At present, the Senate breakdown is 51/49, with the Democrats in the majority.
(Picture (C) - CNN)
2. Confirmation votes and specific forms of legislation usually only require a simple majority or 51 votes, which is *why* it's been so hard to stop cabinet appointments and parts of the Trump agenda.
It's also why it feels like we've had to beg Republicans every key vote.
Ok, all. It's officially Wednesday, so here's what's next w/ #Kavanaugh.
1. The FBI investigation will likely be concluded today. The report will likely be filed (TBD) w/o an interview Dr. Ford, or classmates listed by Deborah Ramirez, and no Julie Swetnick.
In other words, we can hope for the best when it comes to the investigation, but we're mostly likely going to get the worst.
There's also debate on whether the report will be released to the public. Mitch McConnell says hell no. Other Senators disagree. Keep this in mind for some of our next steps.
Candidly: we're not off to a good start. Clear bias as Grassley opens by stating there wasn't a "whiff" of allegations when Kavanaugh was investigated by the FBI, and scolds Feinstein for not revealing the letter. In front of Dr. Ford.
McConnell is currently praising the integrity of Chuck Grassley, and letting loose on Senate Democrats.
Is also criticizing the veracity of Dr. Ford's story, and trying to paint her as unreasonable for having accommodation requests.
McConnell: "But the smear campaign didn't just stop there!"
McConnell is now trying to smear @RonanFarrow@JaneMayerNYer's New Yorker story about Deborah Rodriguez. Claiming the allegation is so thin, NYT refused to run the Rodriguez story.
