I'm not convinced, though. Sir Ivan Rogers' narrow economic arguments aren't touching on the reasons why so many of us - perhaps a minority, but if so a very large minority - want to remain.
Sir Ivan doesn't examine his basic assumption - that the one and only red line that must be followed, come what may, is to end freedom of movement of people.
Sir Ivan talks about the burning desire of many for "sovereignty" and although he seems to empathise with this craving, explains gently and kindly why it's not an option in the real world.
A political mandate is written on water. It exists only because we believe it exists. Only if enough of us believe it. Once enough of us stop believing in it, it's gone. Ceases to exist.
Look at the 5-year parliament rule. A snap general election was generally agreed to be impossible - until, suddenly, it wasn't. The brexit mandate is like this. One day it will just be - gone.
The disaster-brexiters know this very well and fear it, which is why their strategy is to agree to anything at all as long as it gets us over that line.
1. It's been suggested that this 58 brexit report business might be the "Iraq Blair moment". (Short, scaremongering thread follows).
2. Excellent threads by @DavidLammy, @IanDunt, @davidallengreen and no doubt others prove that the government's Brexit reports exist - somewhere.
3. The government, Secretary of State @DavidDavisMP was ordered by Parliament to hand them over to the Brexit Parliamentary select committee. He agreed to do so.
