Position on a list with 119 countries is a variable that's affected by how other countries behaved too. Not India's movements alone.

India's position on hunger index should be assessed against itself, while congratulating other countries for doing better. Let's see...

From the year 2000 to 2017, India has made improvement on its own hunger problems.

India has made sustained improvement on all indices over the years. Things were completely shit, they are getting better.

2009: 43% of under 5 yr old children in India were wasted.
2016: 15.1% of under 5 yr old children in India are wasted.

2009: 48% under 5 children in India were stunted.
2016: 38.7% of under 5 children in India are stunted.

The Global Hunger Index ranking of India wasn’t 65 in 2009 as it first appears in this picture. Read the footnote.

37 countries that top the list aren’t even ranked- so the ranking only has 84 numbers, making No 1 actually 38.

More than one country can have the same rank if they have same score. This makes India rank 97. Not 65, out of 119 in 2009.
