#JamaikaAbbruch is not good news for #Brexit - while new govt is formed/new elections are held, technocrats will govern in Berlin.
1. Any schadenfreude against Merkel (& have seen some) is misplaced as it means Brexit slips further down list of priorities.
2. Very similar to how Merkel was disengaged w/Cameron’s renegotiation due to the migrant crisis in 2015. Except stakes higher this time.
3. Worth remembering that all parties that could be in Govt have remarkably uniform positions on Brexit.
4. (So much so that it wasn’t even worth a mention (!) in the leaked preliminary coalition document for #Jamaika.)
5. So again, this just means less focus on Britain, more at home. This is a bad outcome for Brexit at a crucial point in talks.
6. No special deals from the FDP or Merkel. Just the single market rules to choose from to determine access, & the ‘bill’ to pay.
