As I approach the end of another night in A&E, I’m telling ambulance crews that have been here for 2 hours already that I am unable to safely take a handover from them, and that I don’t know when the next space will be available...
... I have patients who have been sat in the corridor for 8 hours waiting to get into an A&E cubicle to be properly assessed... I am operating in a department with only 1 open space to accept a new patient - Resus, Bay 1...
... I am looking at the pre-alert phone hanging on the wall with dread, knowing that the system is so stretched and vulnerable, it might take only 1 really sick patient for me to completely run out of space and resources ... 
This is what a system in crisis looks like. This is what a broken and underfunded system looks like. Anyone who says “there is no crisis - this is all part of the plan” is frankly lying to you. #NHSCrisis
And now... the last available space in the department has gone. I have no more capacity to offer, even to the sickest of the sick patients. This is unsafe. This is a disaster. #NHSCrisis
I would like to add to this by stating that this is not an overblown, exaggerated account. This is the genuine truth, written contemporaneously at the time of it happening. Anyone telling you this didn’t happen or that I’m being dramatic and hyperbolic, is lying.
And once again... 4 days later... we are in the same position yet again. No room in the department to accept a single additional patient. A corridor full of ambulance crews unable to handover. Severely unwell patients stood in a long queue waiting for cubicles...
Yet again, department on the brink of collapsing under the weight of the demands placed upon it. Everyone is doing everything they can - there is nothing more than anyone can give or contribute... we need immediate, decisive action to #SaveOurNHS ... #NHSCrisis 🤨✊🏼🚑🚨
