Breaking: federal judge has granted a pretrial injunction on Trump's rescission of the #DACA program. Here's what it means. (Thread)
The US government MUST accept DACA renewals, which means those whose DACA protections are expiring soon, or has already expired, may apply for renewal.
Remember, the Trump administration eliminated the DACA program and stopped accepting renewals a couple of months ago.
That resulted in about 122 DACA recipients losing protections EVERY DAY
Now those who were unable to renew in time, and those about to lose DACA, will be able to renew their protections because of this nationwide order.
Unfortunately, the decision does not allow for NEW applications, which means well over a million Dreamers are still left without any form of relief.
The USG will likely appeal this decision to the 9th circuit, but the chances of the order being left in place are good.
This means we'll probably see this go to the Supreme Court.
This is GREAT news for dreamers. DACA recipients voluntarily came forward and were promised protection. The courts are now making sure that gets honored.
Trump continues to abuse his power as he advances his white supremacist agenda. At least one branch of govt is doing it's job of checking those abuses.
The other branch has failed in this same responsibility. Instead, Republicans have at every turn enabled Trump abuses and overreaches.
Important though: we can't let Congress of the hook. There are more than a million Dreamers who are still left out. Congress must pass #DreamActNow
