Gather around everyone...it’s time for some very TRUE short stories morphed into a unbelievably one in the end.
I’ve grown up in a very mixed family and being a proud biracial kid.
But, let’s rewind to a lifetime ago where I wasn’t comfortable or was constantly questioned about “what are you”...
Just like any character in their story. I’ve had my own twist and turns in my life.

However, my experiences that always stood out always seem to involve my family.
Don’t get me wrong.
I love how my parents met and came together.

However, picture me in 5th grade asked “to write about my family’s history/ancestry.”

I struggled.

I knew everything about mum’s family but absolutely nothing about my dad’s #biological family because he was #adopted from #Honduras.
In an intro. to foreign language class in 7th grade. My teacher looked puzzled, like she couldn’t comprehend why I was in the class.

So for 9wks I comment murder to the Spanish language.
And in Spanish 101 and 102 in HS. Again, the same puzzled expression on the teachers faces. Like they still couldn’t understand why I was taking the class.

I later understood the assumptions were made that I spoke Spanish at home.
However, it hurt when my friends who spoke Spanish & English. Asked point blank “why are you taking Spanish class, shouldn’t you be speaking it at home?”

I had to explain my dad is adopted and he was born in Honduras. That his adoptive family spoke only English when he grew up.
My friends then gave me this sad look of disappointment. Like I would never be #Latino #Hispanic enough for them.
In my freshman #uni speech presentation about family’s.
I could have care less for getting an “A” on presenting a speech about my mum’s ancestors from the UK.

I didn’t know anything about my Honduran side of family.
And you know these moments that create a impact on your life. That create a lasting impression no matter what.
And throughout my life I’ve been told...

I looked Latino/Hispanic but you don’t speak the language very well or understand the culture.

That I looked Asian more than once.

I acted White.

Finally,

I just got quite because I felt uncomfortable. #bullying
This past December, my grandmother gifted my family #AncestryDNA kits. #FBF #TBT
When my DNA test arrived all I knew the endless questions of “what are you” would finally stop. I could have a define answer instead of struggling for one.
My brother who was forever teased throughout school looking “Asian” took his Ancestry DNA test: #PhotoOfTheWeek #FamilyFirst ♥️
I knew when my brother’s came in.
It be the same but I still can’t believe it. 😳

This is who I REALLY am. 😦 #AncestryDNA #Ancestry #MondayMotivation #PhotoOfTheWeek AncestryDNA results:

Native American | 34%
Scandinavia | 24 %
Europe West | 12 %
Iberian Peninsula | 12%
Great Britain | 7%
I‘ll always be Honduran.
Still proud.
And strong.
Just now I’m more complete. #merightnow #indigenous #NativeAmerican #AncestryDNA
Wouldn’t humanity be kinder if we all took a DNA test and found out we were all related.

Our #NewYearsResolution hasn’t finished yet.
It’s only just begun.
The @nytimes article explains more how much I feel about losing one part of myself but gaining another. mobile.nytimes.com/2017/08/28/sci… #NativeAmerican #CentralAmerican. 👀 #TuesdayThoughts
Another amazing article is @MSN
I cannot end this thread w/o giving thanks to @Ancestry, my grandmother (@bmelvin5) & entire Jones family (see @Lydia_Music bio for info).

My story is just a portion.
Our family’s story is amazing.

Our quest to continue will be even more epic.
