Advertisers “say they had no idea YouTube was allowing their advertising to appear” on InfoWars.

#BS and a pox on Google and these corporations.

InfoWars has peddled in untuth since before SandyHook. Why get a conscience now?
money.cnn.com/2018/03/03/tec…
This is #BS because advertisers can specify the types of content with which they don’t want to be associated.

And it’s #BS because Google has allowed YouTube to become a cesspool of lies (“but we’re just a platform!”).
Google has allowed YouTube to be inundated with bot/AI-generated content further calling #BS on the “but we didn’t know” excuse

From @d1gi >
medium.com/@d1gi/faketube…
“We didn’t know” could very well be true while being a lie of omission.

That is: imperfect knowledge due to ACTIVE decision not to know/act.

Bah.
This could not be happening to a nicer guy. Ahem.

According to @CNN, Google "reprimanded the conspiracy theory site and Jones for violating its community guidelines" for saying the Parkland students were crisis actors. Jones led the claims that Sandy Hook was a hoax, so why now, @Google?

money.cnn.com/2018/03/03/tec…
Google started acting on #infoWars content earlier this week:

Holy shit. @USATODAY normalized #infoWars on its editorial page.

"The termination came just two days after USA Today—the country's highest circulated newspaper, gave Corsi a major platform on its op-ed page."

newsweek.com/youtube-delete…
InfoWars got its second "strike" post-Parkland this week, which meant Google was suspending the account's ability to upload new content. Three strikes within three months means permanent termination.

The Alex Jones video accusing Parkland students of being crisis actors was "the top trending video on the site" according to @RollingStone

This subject matter is the bread-and-butter of Info Wars channel, so Google's sudden change of heart is a surprise
rollingstone.com/politics/news/…
Google's behavior comes in response to "money talks" -- nothing to do with the company's vaunted early mantra of "do no harm."

rollingstone.com/politics/news/…
"As loathsome and dangerous as Jones' schtick has become, it would be a mistake to think of his newly "public-minded" enemies in Big Tech as benevolent protectors."

ABSOLUTELY.

Just as @USAToday should be ashamed at this:

“If [YouTube] accounts are getting deleted at the last minute because people are angry and news organizations are digging into this, should these accounts have existed in the first place?” @d1gi in @nytimes

Dear @resistbot developers

STOP asking for DOB which you are linking to first and last names and phone over insecure SMS.

I’m stunned. This is the sort of info we opposed Trump’s gathering en masse last year.

#justSayNo to today’s ask about being registered to vote.
Reminder that @resistbot org fails basic transparency test on “about” page.

You can find two names buried near the bottom of long, densely-packed about page. No details/links.

“In a 2014 address to Yale Law students, [Kavanaugh] recalled a night of ‘group chugs’ in Boston that ended with his group “falling out of the bus onto the front steps of Yale Law School at about 4:45 a.m.”
nytimes.com/2018/09/28/us/…
Drinking to excess is not synonymous with blacking out (having memory gaps). Kavanaugh implied the former by denying the latter.
Kavanaugh claimed it was “legal to drink” in his senior year. Not true. The legal drinking age in Maryland had been raised to 21 before he turned 18. And 1982, the summer in question, was the summer BEFORE his senior year. He turned 18 in 1983.

Do you want ANY corporation monitoring your whereabouts and behavior 24x7? Hell no.

And a reminder that “insurance” wasn’t created to help the most secure/fit. Franklin’s vision: to spread risk throughout a community.

Insurance as envisioned by Benjamin Franklin was the opposite of individualism (an American myth with long legs).

Lost in the fevered GOP rhetoric that there is a proverbial time-bomb counting down on the Kavanaugh nomination:

In 2016, some in the GOP said they’d not let Clinton appoint a SCOTUS justice.
h/t @KevinMKruse

pbs.org/newshour/polit…
These “omg we have to vote now else democracy is lost” hypocrites held open a SCOTUS justice seat for ONE YEAR AND 53 DAYS because they did not want the country’s first black president to make that appointment.

washingtonpost.com/opinions/the-m…
The GOP rhetoric is classic 1984-doublespeak (AKA bullsh*t).

CLAIM: The FBI does not investigate charges like those made by Dr. Blasey.

FACT: the FBI investigated Anita Hill’s allegation.

"In the face of warnings that climate change was making" storms like Florence "more common" NC created an 'insurer of last resort' and "has written policies for thousands of coastal properties worth tens of billions of dollars." #NoFederalBailOutForNC
propublica.org/article/hurric…
Why did the NC politicians do this?
Because "nationally known insurance companies pulled out of the state’s coastal communities". You know, they assessed the risk and said 'hell no.'
State Farm stopped writing new homeowner policies for houses within a mile of the ocean in 2006. By the end of 2008, Farmers Insurance and Encompass Insurance joined SF.
