If Donald had a brain & wasn't terribly Islamophobe, he would pick @realZalmayMK (R) as the Secretary of State. Mr. Khalilzad was George W Bush's ambassador to Afghanistan/Iraq/UN. Unlike many W folks, he's less of a war hawk & knows the region more than most other Republicans.
The other day, I was listening to a @INTLSpyCast interview with @MicheleRigAssad-- an ex-CIA operator who talked about sexism within @CIA that how CIA would pick clueless white men for the Middle East missions over her who speaks Arabic fluently & studied the region for years.
One funny anecdote: @MicheleRigAssad mentioned how her Arab mother-in-law had difficulties to get a US visa at the time that both the mother-in-law's son & his wife were serving the US gov at the CIA. #TravelBan
What's the link between @MicheleRigAssad & @realZalmayMK? Examples of how prejudice within institutions & among key powerful figures may impede the mission that they're supposed to serve. Compare how many times Fox invites John Bolton over @realZalmayMK (both W appointees).
As the Supreme Court will hear the #TravelBan oral argument soon, I hope conservative justices recognize that blanket discrimination based on national origin, not only won't help the war against terrorism, but impedes it by alienating Muslim-Americans.

Consider the devasting effects on morales of US government employees like @MicheleRigAssad & her husband when their immediate family members could not receive a US visa simply because of national origin.
.@javadesq was among the top ideal candidates to prosecute Jihadi terrorists for the US government. We need folks like Javad to work for us. #TravelBan does the opposite by alienating our allies & Muslim-American citizens. #TravelBan harms US soft power. nytimes.com/2017/10/25/opi…
