There are only 2 ways to amend our Constitution. Option 1 has been used 27 times and Option 2, has not been used to amend the Constitution. Why?

Calling for a Convention of the States has recently been a focus funded by the very wealthy Koch Bros.
The carrots they dangle to attract you are:

1. Balanced Budget
Amendment
2. Term Limits for
Congress

Sounds good right?

Yes, a Balanced Budget & Term Limits Amendments are reasonable, but here's the problem- the Koch Bros. want to use Option 2, a Constitutional Convention of the States to amend our Constitution.

If it's legal, what's the big deal? A Constitutional Convention of the States hasn't been called since 1787. All of the amendments to the Constitution have been proposed by 2/3 of members of the House & Senate, and then ratified by 3/4 of State Legislatures.

This method works well as evidenced in the several amendments to the Constitution. A specific proposal was proposed, & then ratified. At a Constitutional Convention of the States, MANY proposals could be made at once & the possibility of rewriting the entire Constitution becomes

an unintended consequence. Supporters of Convention will assure you that their one specific proposal will be the only one presented. However, they can't promise you that. A Constitutional Convention can write their own rules; there are no ground rules for this process.

Also, the Covention can set it's own agenda, possibly opening the door for undue pressure by wealthy & powerful groups, like those supported by the Koch Bros. They can even set their own rules for the ratification process, & there is no other group or branch of government

that has the authority to control the convention, even the courts. Once the doors to the convention are opened, it could quickly become Pandora's box or a run away train. Thank the founding fathers for that ambiguity.

So let's not open that can of worms of a Convention, #ConCon, because you never know what may wriggle out & you may be unprepared for the consequences. We have a proven method of amending the Constitution. Let's use it.
