He was at Thurgood Marshall Academy in DC before #MarchForOurLives shining the spotlight on the gun violence black students suffered in their communities. facebook.com/KiaSpeaks/post…
I was just reading bell hooks (because that’s what cool people do on Saturday nights 😭), and she wrote that the mass media “has always betrayed the cause of racial justice.”
We can’t depend on the mass media to point out the racial biases occurring, their racial biases. But when people like David Hogg get the spotlight, their words highlight the media’s, the culture’s & country’s racial biases.
Just so that we’re all clear: yes, all allies should be like David. However, the ultimate goal should be to destroy the systems that silence the voices of black and brown people in the first place.

Recentering marginalized voices is great. But if you’re not interested in destroying the systems that make that necessary, you simply want to be the nice, charitable person at the top of the social order. And the ultimate goal should be an equitable society with no social order.
Use your privilege to amplify the voices and causes of disenfranchised people, and then work your asses off to create a society where they aren’t disenfranchised.
And while y’all are here, you should also check out this really dope #WomensHistoryMonth project.
