LOL if I’m honest I’d say I’m struggling to even figure out which one you’re referencing because aren’t they all?! 🤷🏾‍♀️🤪 Either way you’re guaranteed to find it on a) my wakelet page (link in bio) or b) my Moments tab #onhere.
@noralove It’s gonna irk me until I figure it out though 😂 is it this one?

yanno, it's funny you mention that. i have some thoughts and some time. allow me to meander a bit. a thread shall commence.
over the last few months, i've asked a few times "why are we still here?" about twitter. it's been rhetorical and, obviously, i'm still here. i don't tweet as much, but i'm still here. that's even though i don't find it particularly enjoyable and struggle to find others who do.
but after watching that museum thing happen, i kinda think we need to really ask ourselves what we're on here for. cuz that seemed like a lot of people who were #onhere for different reasons, and they all came together and exploded.

If y'all are looking for something to do the Chapel Hill Town Council meeting is starting in 25 minutes.
Chief Blue is here. I stopped by to say hi and pass on my strongly positive impressions of the CPAC meeting.
We also briefly discussed the importance of listening. There's 10s of people here about some zoning item and none are students.

A fiscal conservative would have no reason to be scared to voice their opinion anywhere. Y'all screwed up the Republican party *decades* ago.

And now you're ashamed.
Also, who the hell is #onhere terrorized by people who disagree with their politics? Or the fact that they're alive?

It's not Democrats.
(Yeah the bros would be the exception.

A- But they aren't Democrats.

And

B- they have their reckless mouths pointed mostly at people who don't support their senator.)

I’ve gotten a few hundred new follows in recent days so this feels like a good time to inform y’all that not only is this an anti-Trump account, it’s anti-Bernie too. Thx, congrats on the twofer, welcome aboard, and if you can’t handle either of the above kindly see yourself out.
I won’t waste your time and energy #onhere and I sure as fuck won’t let you waste mine. Count on it.

THREAD: I want to tell you a story that is relevant to these random women defending Kavanaugh. This happens all of the time. Women defend men who they consider to be friends from allegations all the time. This happened to me IRL....
My rapist was a "friend." He was the boyfriend of one of my roommates. We had a lot of mutual friends and when he raped me everyone took sides. There is even a well known person #ONHERE who gives talks on rape culture who has NEVER called me ever and took a side...it wasn't mine
if you love a man or if a dude is a friend of yours it can be hard to believe they could rape someone but that's because we fail to understand that it's about CONSENT and not whether that guy is nice to YOU personally.

#WorldSuicidePreventionDay was yesterday and going ghost #onhere for it was probably the smartest thing I’ve done recently because folx have been dropping like flies the last two years. 2018 has been a particularly dangerous year for young death. And the ages keep dropping.
I’m about 4(?) years removed from my first suicide attempt. Is it gonna be my last? Meh. IDK. I feel like it would be hella dishonest to say a simple yes or no, but it has been interesting to reflect on it year after year.

#WorldSuicidePreventationDay
This is not a pity post. So don’t bring that to my doorstep, IRL or online. This is just me merely talking outloud about how suicidal ideation never really goes away and I think folx need to be upfront about admitting that 🤷🏾‍♀️

He was assaulting women while blackballing Janet in the industry. Again, this is a *POWER STRUCTURE* organized around racialized sexual violence in which wealthy WM hold the most power & poor BW/WOC hold the least. This is how colonialism/slave plantations were organized and...1/
...all of modern white capitalism (incl. the American entertainment industry) is an outgrowth of the plantation system. This is why I don't have patience for folks trying to shift focus to redemption for individual offenders when the issue is *SYSTEMIC* sexual violence 2/
That's like looking at all the evidence past & present of racism in policing and, instead of focusing on the most impacted & the most vulnerable, choosing to focus on whether an officer accused of brutality in one city can get a job in another 3/

Many White liberals love or are White supremacists. They’ll claim it’s about freeze peach and duh bait but that’s because they’re bitchmade and can’t admit they simply like* that ideology. Even Bannon straight up admits what he’s about. The White liberal can’t even do that.
And ones who don’t like it think it’s a game w/o consequences b/c they do not care what happens to PoC, don’t study history to see repeating patterns & think “owning” or “winning a debate” against a supremacist is the “goal,” versus actual survival, decolonization, liberation.
Oh & White supremacists aren’t debating. They’re “increasing their territory.” And White liberals facilitate it. It’s not about “debate” for White supremacists. They simply need as many mics in as many ways possible, whatsoever. That is what the history that so many ignore shows.

I saw #BlackKkKlansman this weekend, and just WOW. It was brilliant and right on time for our current dark moment in American history. Especially in light of the fact that White dudes are out here burning Nikes in protest of Black lives mattering. Past is prologue.
I won’t spoil the plot for y’all but suffice it to say that the whole movie is an indictment of “Make America Great Again” and the inherent White male supremacy of Republican politics. It’s no mystery how we ended up here or why shit hasn’t changed in 150+ years.
There were moments when the whole audience audibly gasped at how David Duke’s rhetoric from the past foreshadowed Donald Trump’s ascendency to the presidency. There’s no mistaking the role White supremacy’s played in radicalizing generations of White Americans.

The @NewYorker does lasting and important work, but giving Steve Bannon a platform at their "festival" is terribly misguided, and rooted in a naive belief that public exposure will somehow allow Bannon to be "bested."/thread nytimes.com/2018/09/03/art…
David Remnick is one of the great editors of our time, but he holds a Boomer-age blindspots. He thinks that his pointed questioning of Bannon will somehow expose Bannon in a way which will discredit Bannon and do him damage. It's the opposite though.
There is no terrible belief or action or prediction that David Remnick could elicit from Steve Bannon that Bannon will not only gladly admit to, but go on to expound upon. He is a white nationalist, a proud one, and exposing this only plays to Bannon's advantage.

This is a great thread. Such an important conversation to be having.
I say this all the time even when it comes to breaking in as an editor. I had a lot of high-up mentors and a middle class family AND I worked somewhere else where I made more so while I took a big salary cut, I also had savings that helped in the first few months + moving to NYC.
I've gotten push back when talking about foundations. But the fact is that it doesn't diminish how hard I've worked and how aggressive I am. It's just being honest so that someone else doesn't beat themselves up when they can't as easily follow my path.

1. A few thoughts on Trump's dinner in honor of evangelicals, which I'll be discussing with @RickSmithShow later. Key context to consider is that fascism is concerned with defining who belongs to "the nation" or "the people," and who doesn't. Internal enemies (Others) are needed.
2. This dovetails neatly with the way in which fundamentalist believers police who does and does not count as a member of their religious confession. This is critical to understanding the Christian Right's politics of "religious freedom":

3. Indeed, as I have written elsewhere, "Fundamentalism is authoritarianism in microcosm, or on the margins. Fascism is essentially fundamentalism in power." The vast majority of white evangelicals are authoritarian and fundamentalist.

@Amy_Siskind I'm glad you apologized. But this is a pattern for you and you need to acknowledge that and deal with it. What are you going to do if the Democrats nominate another black man? Are you going to make cracks about rap music and playing the race card like you did in 2009?
@Amy_Siskind What if the Republicans run a woman? Are you still going to care about their violations of civil norms?

Why is the "no talking about racism" policy page still live on the New Agenda's website?

What do you think of Sarah Palin today?
@Amy_Siskind Do you regret scaremongering about "Sharia on our shores" and siding with "Republican feminists" who hate Muslims?

Do you still think it was "revolutionary" to stop caring about abortion rights and trash feminists who did?

Considering how Eddie Huang has came at Black women #onhere, that’s a definite yes lmao.

I've thanked @Amy_Siskind in person and #onhere, but in light of her recent behavior, I've revisited some old tweets.

Her conversation on Apr 25 with @sarahkendzior has been cast in a stark new light.

The message that Amy was sending that night was a dangerous one.

Here's why.
The conversation went like this. Sarah talked about reality and a dark future. Amy continuously responded with unfailing hope.

The message: we all have the power to change the course of our nation every day.

She painted herself as an exhausted yet somehow tireless change agent.
Sarah pumped the brakes, speaking of ways the administration is taking away our power and keeping it from the already disenfranchised. She reminded us constantly that this predates Trump.

So why is Amy's message dangerous? Isn't it great to be hopeful and forward-looking?

I recently embarked on a long term health & wellness journey. Since I turned 40 I’ve been working on 1) getting toxic ppl out of my life & 2) being more focused on my general health.
This has involved many things, meditating regularly, changing lighting & temp controls in my home, new skin care regimen & of course alterations to my food intake & exercise.
I won’t be sharing much #onhere - but I do want to caution others who are on their own health & wellness journey to be aware of how they communicate around this topic. Far too many days I login & see posts that amt to: I was trash before but now that I’m not fat I have value.

Chiming in from my 32-hour drive from hell to confirm that Black male creatives become wildly insecure when a BW critic breathes in the direction of their project & they need to take up that misogynoir w/ their maker & not us & keep the same energy they would for a Susan critic.
Or even another critic of color, who surprise, is NOT Black.
And this isn’t limited to producers, directors, or writers either. Actors do this nonsensical, anti-Black woman shit too—as evidenced by the brouhaha that happened in my mentions last month w/ Colter (though those circumstances were slightly different).

I just got an alert from my credit reporting that Reddit suffered a Russian breach, anyone else receive similar recently? I’ve never had an account there (re: Bros) but if you have check on your accounts. So far I’m seeing very little about this across the major outlets....
The worst part about any and all of these data breaches is Trump and the rest of the chickenshit GOP aren’t doing a damn thing to stop them from happening or prosecute the folk doing it because they all work for Putin now.

“IT’S ADAM AND EVE, NOT ADAM AND STEVE!!"

This hateful anti-gay rhetoric is shouted in #Philadelphia (1993), starring those giants in their field, Tom Hanks and Denzel Washington.

I saw it in the theaters when I was 10. I’ll never forget that line.
Of course, similar rhetoric, cleverly rhymed or not, remains today in anti-LGBTQ+ Christian hit pieces.

It comes down to Genesis, they often say. Adam and Eve, man and woman. That’s how it was meant to be.
They normally don’t go much farther than that. Biblical literalists rarely do.

If they wanted to take the first story of creation, from Genesis 1, there are no names in it at all.

I think people think there are like ten trolls or obtuse questions lobbed at you #onhere. And that's true at maybe a couple hundred or thousand followers. Somewhere north of 50k the scale changes dramatically. It's pretty human for that to be overwhelming.
It's probably unrealistic to ask or want people to police themselves a bit. But it's not just being mean or rude. None of us is set up for thousands of trolls, sealions, repetitive questions. It's one of the shortcomings of networked media.
I will get people like "oh you respond to all the trolls!", and I'm like honey I respond to maybe fewer than 1% of the trolling I receive.

Good evening, family. Sorry for the late start. For one, it's hard for me to settle into a sermon while it's still daylight. Second, I was hit with a massive bout of sleepiness out of the blue...

People say “why do you only care when police kill people but not when black people kill each other.” Most of those people are trolls but in case anyone has this question in good faith I’ll humor you and address it quickly.
1) you don’t know what people in Chicago do every day to fight intracommunity gun violence. You know nothing about it. You don’t know about the work we do in education, community mental health, mentorship, or other long-term comprehensive efforts. Educate yourself.
one small example: no, you’re not gonna see me tweet BLACK FOLKS R KILLING EACH OTHER. But when you see me up in arms about making sure Assata’s Daughters has gardening supplies or school closings, it’s bc I understand that shooters are hungry people & kids with no schools.
