I saw a quote this morning about how “things are not getting worse” - I’m not going to @ the person but I’ll be honest I’m offended. I’m all for positive thing but denying that things most def ARE getting worse is an insult. We can’t fight effectively if we aren’t honest with ourselves & each other about the reality of what is happening & what is ahead of us. This is WORSE. That is HEALTHY & NORMAL to acknowledge.

I am SICK to my stomach. This is white supremacy. This is fascism on the rise globally. independent.co.uk/news/uk/home-n… And for those who do not know about the #WindrushGeneration - these were Black people from Caribbean nations (mostly from JA) who were INVITED by the British Gov't from 1948 - 1971 to help meet a labor shortage GB was having at the time.

I’ve seen WAY too many white men talk about the so-called “slippery slope” of high school actions being held against people for 35 years. The entire criminal justice system is built on that act at its core. I’m tired. One of my friends got married to the love of her life last month. He was jailed as a teen & because of his conviction they can’t adopt a child in the state they live in.

I see we've reached the "why didn't she tell an adult at the time" stage of the GOP response to #ChristineBlaseyFord - SIGH. Gather round & let's have a chat with some historical context to this convo. I am 10 yrs younger than Ford & Kavanaugh - the first prominent study on the phenomenon called "Date Rape" was conducted in 1987... when I went to HS in the 90's "Date Rape" MOST people didn't consider it a true crime. #facts

Today as I do every Sept 15th I honor the Fifth Little Girl & one of my sheroes Sarah Collins Rudolph - a civil rights icon & the sole survivor of the 9/15/63 Birmingham Church Bombing who has spent her life lifting up the memory of her sister Addie Mae & fighting for justice. I know a lot of folks don’t know @SarahRudolp story - it’s something she has been working on telling for quite some time - al.com/news/birmingha…

One of the strangest things about the hyper gentrification going on in #Flatbush RN is that while Caribbean ppl are being pushed out & priced out of their own neighborhood- there has also been this whole widespread “lifting up” of the culturally diverse nature of Flatbush. I’ll visit home & hear my family and childhood friends tell me who was pushed out most recently & how it feels to suddenly be over-run by white people & their dogs (which they don’t pick up after BTW).

Let me be clear. You can give commentary on something w/our sharing it. If you really think making ppl see that shit actually does anything good, we def disagree. We have all seen these depictions of BW for centuries... yet here we are in 2018 seeing it still. This isn’t a case for “sunlight disinfects” - what good does sunlight do on something already tanning itself on the beach? This cartoon was PRINTED in a major intl newspaper - it wasn’t hidden. The artist shared it himself.

“6. There are only two oppressed minority groups on campuses today—practicing Jews and Christians. They are not badly oppressed. But you will hear them mentioned with a caustic... wsj.com/articles/ten-t… I actually want to hear some responses from POC Yalies on this piece - there are several things that make my neck do the scooby doo turn - your professor shouldn’t put politics in the classroom but here is an OpEd for students BY a professor that does just that... 🧐

This is WYLD. The things these “faith leaders” chose to highlight in this statement making the case that Social Justice & truthfully any form of justice is outside the expectations for people of faith lest they be going against the Gospel. statementonsocialjustice.com Here they explicitly claim that any one preaching that those who follow the teachings of Jesus Christ are expressly NOT obligated to “live justly in the world” 😬

I get to see my whole family next week & I’m so excited. It’s been a challenging time for most of us but my nephew Chris is in need of some direct support right now. I spoke with him & her partner and they gave me her permission to share this thread & ask. A little background, as I lovingly refer to myself as a “Movement Auntie” - Chris was the 1st person to truly make me an Auntie when I was 7 yrs old - I honestly operated under the assumption that he was MY baby.

It is great news that Roy Oliver was found guilty today in the killing of Jordan Edwards, but those closing arguments... mic.com/articles/19096… Listen, knowing that the humanity of the victim was what needed to be proven in that courtroom only further illustrates why this system doesn't fucking work.

I’ve said this many times & in many ways.
White people making their living off “anti-racism” training is a manifestation of white supremacy. I don’t care how “nice” & “smart” they are. Debate your mama. I’m not replying to anyone arguing here - see the “Debate your mama” notation, but it’s important to understand how this phenomenon of white “anti-racism experts” is a true manifestation of white supremacy.

Ok - I am a 1st Gen American. Everyone in my fam incl all my siblings were born in Jamaica. For some reason on my TL there seems to be a disconnect between understanding how being born in the USA /=/ being culturally a Black American (Af-Am). But I can illustrate this easily. Growing up I spent my summers in Jamaica with my Grandmother. Every summer from age 5 - 14. I quickly understood my summer exp to be different from my friends who either stayed in the city or went "down south" for the summer.

I recently embarked on a long term health & wellness journey. Since I turned 40 I’ve been working on 1) getting toxic ppl out of my life & 2) being more focused on my general health. This has involved many things, meditating regularly, changing lighting & temp controls in my home, new skin care regimen & of course alterations to my food intake & exercise.

I haven’t said much about the Black pastors meet with Toupee Fiasco story because those folks aren’t my chosen faith leaders BUT I do want to talk about what masqueraded as “prison reform” These reform measures wipipo’s President is pushing was written by the Koch Brothers & is actually a capitalist approach to injecting so-called “humanity” into the prison industrial complex - charleskochinstitute.org/issue-areas/cr…

I am lamentably only able to spend 1 day here @We_Are_Wakanda - but wanted to share my thoughts on the event. I'm very sad that I can't stay for the full event, but work calls tomorrow. This event is incredibly well run, fun for attendees and BLACK AF. The staff and organizers were a dream to work with prior to arrival and when myself & my panelists arrived, we were greeted, taken to our room to make sure it had everything we needed and able to stay in a stocked green room prior to our panel #Wakandacon
