This is the Customs station at Svinesund, the main border crossing between ๐ณ๐ด and ๐ธ๐ช . It can handle up to 2,500 trucks/day - one truck every 4 min. 10,000 trucks go through Dover every day. Do the maths. Itโs not possible. ๐ณ๐ด is in #SingleMarket but not in #CustomsUnion
But this should also give remainers some hope. I donโt think it will be possible for UK to leave both #CustomsUnion union and #SingleMarket - UK is not in #Schengen - Norway is in both Schengen and SM which makes trade easier, even if thereโs a hard border between ๐ธ๐ชand ๐ณ๐ด
Then thereโs the Irish Border of course. Again not possible to have a soft border between NI and ROI if UK leaves Single market and Customs Union. Even an EEA, Norway, solution would require a hard border here. Brexit is stupid!
Norway is in Schengen and Single Market but not in Customs Union. Trucks take and average of 4 mins to cross the border from Sweden.
Turkey is in CU, but not in SM and Schengen.
Result: Border gridlock. Will this be Dover post Brexit? ft.com/content/b44586โฆ
If UK leave SM and CU, and already is not in Schengen, not only goods would have to clear customs, like in Norway, but also the truck and the driver.
Brexit is insane!
Comparing Dover and Svinesund I canโt see how Dover could handle even an EEA style Brexit. 10,000 trucks, 4 minutes per truck + passport check for driver. Nah!
My conclusion? UK will be forced to stay in SM and CU, not only because of the Irish border.
It will be #Brexit in name only, and UK will loose its veto and become a rule taker.
Brexit is stupid!
Great video from FT about the potential customs gridlock at Dover after Brexit. Big thanks to @Bournemouth4EU for the link!

But we can have an open, invisible, frictionless border between RoI and NI if we use modern technology!
Yeah. Right! economist.com/news/britain/2โฆ

Oh dear! It seems he didnโt want any help with his poll. Blocked.
But do give him a hand. Heโs only managed a little more than 2000 votes since 30/7
Hm! We have turned the vote around to 56% Remain in less than an hour. ๐
Who would have thunk!
British hauliers will need licenses and permits to be able to drive on European roads. In a no deal scenario there will be no way of getting UK goods into Europe!
Yup! This is not #Scaremongering but #facts #BrexitMadness
The market access for British hauliers under a No deal scenario will only cover 3% of the needs. #BrexitMadness#Transport
Check this thread where two experts on trade discuss the problem:
Take a look again at the situation on the Border with Turkey: Trucks driving into EU will need permit from every country they need to pass! #CustomsUnion means free movement of goods but not trucks. ft.com/content/b44586โฆ
Seems the EEA advocates think that EEA countries do not contribute to the EU budget. This is wrong. Check this link from the Norwegian Governments own pages: regjeringen.no/en/topics/euroโฆ
Ideologists, huh?
Norway contributes to the EU budget in three major fields: to reduce social nd economic disparities, to take part in EU programmes (Horizon2020, Erasmus+, Galileo, Copernicus), and the Schengen cooperation. regjeringen.no/en/topics/euroโฆ
Norway and other EEA countriesโ contributions to the EU programmes (Horizon2020, Erasmus+, Galileo, Copernicus) are on foot with full member states.
There is no taking part in EU programmes without contributions to the budget. regjeringen.no/en/topics/euroโฆ
After the referendum May slammed the door in the face of the 48%. Then she locked the moderate leavers up in another room, and negotiated #Brexit with her own cabinet and the pure Brexit ideologues. Goodbye to reality and compromise. #BrexitShambles
In Norway PM Gro Harlem Brundtland, who had campaigned for #Norway to join EU, stayed on her post so that she could negotiate an outcome as many as possible could accept. She went for #compromise and managed to unite a split country. ๐ณ๐ด
PS. Gro Harlem Brundtland made an international career after she left Norwegian politics. I donโt agree with her politically, but she deserves respect. ๐ณ๐ด
I ran into a rabid Brexiter on my evening walk today. Talked about how happy he was now that UK was leaving the EU. I tried to keep my cool and think I managed to get in a few hard facts, like itโs not the EU forcing a hard border in Ireland #Disinformation#Brexit
The guy happens to be an (unfollowed but not unfriended) FB friend, and he offered me a ride home and said โPlease donโt unfriend me.โ
Heโs decent enough, but very ill informed. I also told him that Iโve never been to a country more ill informed about EU than the UK.
I told him that there had been a massive anti EU disinformation campaign in the UK since the early 1990ies. The lies were so many the EU found it necessary to launch a separate page to debunk it. It has arond 600 entries, I sad.

So, this happened.
Troll pretending to unite ppl on Brexit tweets long anti-EU thread full of disinformation.
Troll is effectively debunked by an EU insider who knows how EU works, @ottocrat
Troll goes into a manic hizzyfit and implodes.
Brexit Central think they have a scope
Hereโs the original thread where the lies are debunked.
Hereโs the reactions from Brexit Central this morning, trying to silence @ottocrat obviously, by โexposingโ him and calling him a troll.
According to Brexit Central presenting facts = trolling.
