Dear pundits. There's a really easy way to fact-check whether US ships fired tomahawks into somewhere. Well, easy if you're prepared ahead of time, which you should be bc this is your job. Also, OPSEC / COMSEC thread, and how the Navy plays checkers instead of chess with COMSEC
So all US Navy ships have internet and the sailors are allowed to use it. So then, there's a constant flow of posts, reposts, likes, RTs, etc to public social media accounts from all US Navy ships at any given time. Except for basically one of two times.
One is when the comms gear that does the internet breaks. The other is during Restricted Communications postures. There's a few variants of that but one thing they all have in common is the internet is turned off for everyone except a couple people. So
If you know where ships are deployed (coarsely by official public information, and easily enhanced in resolution by also public information) and you've enumerated public accounts already then whenever a ship goes dark it's statistically obvious. They're either rivercity or broken
This is at least as big a deal as the #Strava "breach" but no one's noticed it yet. So the logic behind RC postures downing the internet but not, say, SHF itself, is that they don't want sailors to do something like tell family they're about to strike XYZ before a strike happens
But if I'm SECNAV, I'd get rid of the postures that down services but not antennas. If you need to down an antenna itself for stealth, fine (whole separate rant here about how they used to try to exclude SHF bc they confuse "line-of-sight" comms with something literally only LOS)
Or at least, I would in the case of an impending strike. Just have analysts watch those ships' comms for the 48 preceding hrs. I guarantee, maybe not Syria, but Russia & China knew of the strike long before it happened purely bc which ships and where went to a certain RC posture
(And intel agencies have actual intel to add to this. This, I can do by writing a script and letting it run. Then every so often I know when something was happening. This might or might not be something I already do just to sanitize propaganda from my inbound news. Just saying.)
Anyway, sidebar, big navy got a lesson on sidelobes and SHF by me and a few others one time so presumably that RC vulnerability is still fixed. And for everyone else, just absorb the thread as a lesson on how the absence of comms can be just as telling a COMSEC violation as comms
Related to Big Navy being technically incompetent when it comes to certain policies, maybe later I'll tell you a funny story about ordnance and personnel RADHAZ postures and people not understanding how phased array radars work

well fwiw it is known (and denied, heads-in-sand style) that gen Z is v "conservative" (in the dubiously limiting L/R 1D nomenclature)

i've always been adidas so i don't have much to think about on this one

(if i'd always been nike i doubt i'd think much or change either, but)
incidentally, "conservative" here just means

we wear athleticwear for, or to signal participation in, athletics. as such we expect athleticwear brands to promote an image of performance and athleticism

this is lifestyle brand adverts 101. nike's image is not pure athletics now
(admittedly, being professionally woke not only consumes all productive / working hours, but appears to gobble up any remaining time one might devote to such athletic pursuits as running and lifting and fucking. so, ymmv if you are a millennial approaching your midlife crisis.)

so i tortured some unfamiliar artists out of the pandora algorithm. (it's so good at that, if you use it right. too bad the "premium" audio is an absolute joke.)

anyway one of them is the greatest thing ever, and i'm going to share it with you all

gif very related
if you're into any rock music where the subgenre is "melodic", "symphonic", etc -- you'll have noticed how many mainstream artists / bands in those niches are technically christian

but i bet you've never seen a (christian) anarchocapitalist nu metalcore band
for fun they did a cover of an nsync song

but you'll never guess how it ends

so, i was listening to some new (to me) @Amaranthemetal stuff on Tidal

they don't really do filler tracks like lots of bands, so i click on a single, presumably from an upcoming album, which, fuck yeah about that too! anyway

mere seconds in, my brain already has two conclusions
t+2, yesss, this song is my favorite kind of Amaranthe

t+13 "ohh right i haven't seen Attack on Titan in ages, how behind am i?"

there is 100% chance this song will be a candidate for the intro piece on any action animes in production. the arrangement and pacing is *textbook*
it's great example of the "female vocalist+symphonic/powermetal" subgenre; great example of Amaranthe; totally epic. and also the exact manner of epicness aligns so precisely with the music chosen for intros on things like AoT that it immediately begs to be used for it haha

"ay, isabela. lo mismo, the world. it is going to a shitshow in a handbasket to hell"
a bit melodramatic and the absolute madrina of all mixed metaphors but i have to say, it has a nice flow to it
(context = joke btw. woman ahead of me on phone with daughter delivering the tragic news that our @ShipleyDo_Nuts has sold out of sausage-and-jalapeno kolaches lol)

lmao. oh the vogonity

guns are cool but can't buy iced tea or razor blades (the tea is apparently bc ppl throw them at cops?)

America is apple pie and agents of the state enforcing "is this a hidden camera show" levels of self-contradictory rulesets with a straight face
JEFFERSON FROM BEYOND THE GRAVE: why is the gun okay and not the tea

LEO: uhhh well we can't take his gun, it's legal

JEFFERSON: why

LEO: laws. ohhhh a constitutional amendment i guess

JEFFERSON: indeed we did not think we needed one for tea

despite the insanity, things are looking up:

for years we've watched people who were otherwise very qualified for a thing, have that thing taken away for a prior bad habit of publicly saying dumb shit, or edgy shit, or "yeah i hear you but ehh still seems kinda [x]ist" shit
in sarah's case she was (probably, mostly?) just being an edgelord against a permitted target, not unlike the constant jew jokes on 4chan

buuuuttt there's also pretty clearly something deeper that hopefully she'll deal with; there's all too often a tinge of sincerity in her edge
but setting aside this and a couple other moderate character defects, she really is an extremely good writer and reporter. she also wasn't always like this, and has an otherwise very clever wit, which would be nice to see used more, ah, maturely
