My thoughts on this sad day for America (a thread):
Right-wing & corporate special interests selected this nominee and propped up his nomination with tens of millions of dollars in dark money.
We need to prioritize protecting our courts, which starts with retaking the Senate.
They picked Kavanaugh because they know he is a reliable vote; he is a lifelong foot soldier for these interests, a political operative who became one of the most partisan ideological judges in the country.

Even as hundreds of separated children remain terrified & alone in detention, the Trump Administration is moving to try & replace family separation with indefinite family incarceration in an unacceptable bid to jail children indefinitely and subject them to more trauma and abuse.
To move this plan forward, the Trump Administration is trying to strip away existing safeguards and protections for children through a new regulation to allow for the long-term imprisonment of children in facilities with well-documented abusive conditions.

A summary of just a few critical moments that should TERRIFY YOU from Judge Kavanaugh’s confirmation hearing.
JUDGE KAVANAUGH REFUSED TO SAY HE WOULD UPHOLD WOMEN’S CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHTS UNDER ROE V. WADE.
America! Take note! What happened today was an act of patriotism by Senator Booker for the people. But maybe it’s what happened next was most outstanding—the entire @SenateDems in the judiciary committee stood with Booker and therefore stood with the American people. 1/5
The @GOP wants you to believe that they are the party for the people. The way they want you to believe this is by just repeating the words over and over. Words are just words. What actionable items have the Republicans done for the American people? 2/5

So, @BetsyDeVos is considering allowing states to use federal funding to purchase guns for educators.
Here’s what that money would be taken away from:

Title IV, Part A, is the mechanism through which community schools, 21st century and afterschool programs are funded. Authorized at $1.6 billion in FY 2018, Title IV a block grant with 3 basic activities.
Heather Heyer was tragically killed one year ago in an act of domestic terrorism in Charlottesville, Virginia.
She was protesting the bigotry of neo-Nazis, Ku Klux Klan members and other white nationalists when she was plowed down by a car. She was 32 years old.
Heather was in Charlottesville that day because she felt an innate pull to defend our country from the infestation of racism and hatred.
She was our representation--of good. Of peace. Of light.

3D GUN UPDATE: today, @SenBillNelson took to the Senate floor to ask the Senate for “unanimous consent” to immediately take up and pass his legislation to block the online publication of blueprints used to make fully functioning 3D-printed guns. #NoRA (Thread)
Under Senate rules, a senator’s request for “unanimous consent” – or passage without a vote – is approved unless any one senator objects.
Immediately after Nelson made his request, @SenMikeLee objected. #NoRA
This is not a partisan problem. It is an American problem. #PatriotNotPartisan

Anyone concerned about protecting communities from gun violence should strongly oppose the nomination of Judge Brett Kavanaugh. Here’s why:
Kavanaugh’s presence on the Supreme Court could undermine decades of work to strengthen gun policy and would gravely jeopardize public safety. #NoRA

Next week President Trump will announce his second Supreme Court Justice pick.
Think this doesn’t affect your day-to-day life?
Here’s #WhatsAtStake and how our lives and our democracy could be negatively impacted for generations to come. #SCOTUS1. Simply put, the Supreme Court interprets the Constitution, which involves every aspect of our lives—how we conduct ourselves in society and boundaries for individuals and the government. Trump will surely nominate someone who aligns with his alt-right ideology. #WhatsAtStake

As well as @MichaelAvenatti and @HMAesq, I am joining forces with Vorzimer Masserman, Fertility & Family Law Center to help locate and reunite separated migrant families.
We will help prepare temporary guardianship agreements that will permit those children held in internment camps to be released to family members or other guardians in the U.S. selected by the parents until their asylum status has been adjudicated.

IMPORTANT: Everyone who cares about keeping the Internet free & open for all should be paying attention to California. #SB822, a bill to restore #NetNeutrality that’s facing a crucial committee hearing THIS WEDNESDAY
Take action: battleforthenet.com/call/california (THREAD)
Trump & @AjitPaiFCC's resoundingly unpopular repeal of #NetNeutrality *just* went into effect. But dozens of states are fighting back. Substantively, the California bills are the best ones in the country, hands down. But they're in serious danger of getting gutted or voted down.

SO MANY LIES BEING SPREAD BY TRUMP!
It's important for us to know the truth about Trump's immigration policy & how it compares to Bush/Obama's policies to be clear about what our demands should be.
Here's what I learned: (THREAD)
Kids being stolen from their parents in mass is new, and is entirely the result of Jeff Sessions' decision to prosecute all people crossing the border, including asylum-seekers and parents with kids.

IMPORTANT QUESTION: Is the possibility of Russia tampering with the midterm elections freaking you out?
It should be freaking you out.
It’s a real possibility.
I feel the need to point out (again) that our voting system is vulnerable to attack. Citizens of 13 states will be voting in the midterms on insecure, obsolete, hackable, paperless voting machines that cannot be recounted.

Hi @AjitPaiFCC, remember me? I know you were all over TV yesterday celebrating a government handout to your former (current?) employer, Verizon. But frankly, you're full of $#!t and everyone knows it. Let's review the lies in your tweet below (THREAD)
You claim that repealing #NetNeutrality will "benefit consumers." Please explain how letting our cable and phone companies charge us new fees to access online content that we already get benefits us? Do you think people WANT to pay Comcast extra to visit Twitter? Ummm, no.
#NetNeutrality is NOT "dead." Yes, the FCC's disastrous and unpopular repeal officially went into effect today, but it's not going to last. We're fighting in the courts, in Congress, and at the state and local level. And we will win. #SaveNetNeutrality

Hello, @DLoesch. Since the Parkland shooting, common sense gun reform measures have been adopted at the local, state and federal level, while the private sector has made guns less available. And we are not done yet. (Thread) #NoRA

For those of you saying, “Shut up, Alyssa! You couldn’t be any more of an idiot. Women already have equal rights.”
This thread is for you, delightful people.
The ERA is a Constitutional amendment which would prohibit denying or abridging equal rights under law by the United States or any state on account of sex. #ERANow

Every time someone talks about revisiting and revising gun laws, the messaging gets obscured, and somehow it comes out on the other end...”the liberals want to take all your guns away”.
I want to be very clear....
I don’t want to take your guns away. I AM NOT AGAINST THE 2nd AMENDMENT.
In fact, my husband is a law-abiding gun owner who believes in common sense gun reform. (This part is usually omitted when the other side argues against me). #NoRA
