I really didn't want to throw fuel on this fire but Kyle needs to be put on blast for this.

Starting a massive self-indulgent, self-aggrandizing campaign is precisely the opposite PR a pony convention should have. Snitch taggers get blocked BTW

Today I got bored and wondered what would the US look like if each state was a voronoi cell with each capitol as its centroid.

So of course I had to see it. Couple of things: the US’ three largest cities have changed states. New York City is now in New Jersey, Los Angeles is in Arizona, and Chicago is in Wisconsin.

One of the best/worst things about publicly identifying as a scientist on twitter is you get these little gems frequently in your mentions

Yah bro, this sounds totes legit BTW I get these mentions all the time but they are not usually this aggressive

Ever notice how support for the systematic disenfranchisement, exploitation, and harm to undocumented folks is always framed as "a public safety issue" but is never actually given context?

This should be a massive fucking clue. Now far be it from me to speculate as to why the context is assumed, but if I am to interpret this logically I am forced to presume the issue with "public safety" is tied to some quality undocumented folks are all presumed to possess.

Can we talk for a moment about the idiocy of old white men from developed nations who try to lecture the rest of the world about overpopulation without once addressing how they could be the solution? independent.co.uk/news/uk/home-n… Like seriously, fuck David Attenborough’s opinion here. It’s the apotheosis of colonial paternalism. I mean are we really going to blame the developing world for problems that are clearly traceable back to western colonialism?

I’ve been thinking about this because one thing I’ve noticed is how every random person I’ve talked to this vacation has given me an unsolicited opinion which ultimately reveals some support for white supremacists. Oh sure, they may not LIKE white supremacy. They may even hate the groups that marched in UTR. But always they profess to me some sympathy with fascism’s core tenets.

(THREAD) So now that the dust has cleared on the BronyCon announcement I feel like I have to give my hot take.

I mean, all the cool kids are so here we go. I cannot tell you how many tweets I’ve seen either asking or answering the question “is the fandom dying?” And I can’t tell you how much I think that’s the wrong question to ask.

The last bidding war is literally between Batman and The Joker. It’s over the moderator’s hat. The ENTIRE auction is coming to Batman’s aid. The “Justice League” takes the stage. #GalaCon2018

My office door has a frosted glass window in it, which means people are constantly standing less than 5 cm from the glass trying to peer inside.

Most likely people who are lost, I’m guessing. I’m thinking about posting a sign outside: “The person or thing, you are looking for is not inside this room. Look elsewhere.”

Seeing all the police orgs in front of me right now reminds me of a line from one of my favorite songs: “You’re talking a lot, but you’re not saying anything.” Also, I understand I have a naturally loud voice, but when I’m whispering to my friends, I don’t think that gives you license to angrily give me the hand symbol for “time out,” old white ladies.

🎵Oh city what a pity you don’t understand
You really seem to lack in respecting our demands
And council always claims it’s just out of their hands

Y’all need to change, council
Oh what ya do council, do council, you make me blue council🎵 Anyway, I’m here early and I have some brain droppings to leave.

So the ACSB claims they’re not voting on the dress code tonight??? We may have to return when these folks meet in August. Okay, the ACSB agenda just says “info” on the dress code item. Not “action.”

Also they’re reading a ACHS climate survey saying that incidents of reported bullying dropped this past decade. I’m worried this is going to be used as backing to ignore the speakers tonight.

So I would like if I could to tweet something kind of weird, but I swear I'm going to try and make something of it so here I go... I cannot get myself to believe in the existence of hammerhead sharks.

This is especially weird for me, because I have seen them.

CW for just general gross-ness in the attached messages.

So I'm late to the party here but I do want to point out how in 3 DMs Jason has managed to create a microcosm of fascist beliefs. Firstly, Jason is acting like this is all some sort of game. "Why don't you consider a separate protest?" Because JK, we're protesting you and your ilk.

Essential reading for the day: Frederick Douglass' 1852 speech "What to the slave is the Fourth of July?" en.wikisource.org/wiki/What_to_t… Or if you are pressed for time here's a video of James Earl Jones reading some of the more memorable passages: democracynow.org/2018/7/4/what_…

I’m coming to love the low-grade fear in the eyes of officials when they see a room full of activists staring them down.

I love it, and am confused by it. Like, what are they afraid of? Like… are you afraid that I’m going to yell at them? I mean, I AM, but is that really something to be afraid of? That’s part of being a public official.

I’m 30 minutes early for the RWSA board meeting, which means I have plenty of time to sit alone in a big room stewing in the juices of my own thoughts.

Let’s see where this takes me. I know that water resources really don’t seem like a big issue in context of everything happening right now. What with the injustices being doled our by the federal gov’t right now, and the sheer pain of many marginalized communities.

But it matters to me.

You have faith in the system. You believe that people really want to play fair. You hope that by playing by the rules you can win the game.

You’ve forgotten that the people who can write the rules are also playing the game. I feel like that’s a big part of the calls for moderation. That rules provide “order” and that opposite of “order” is “chaos” so any rules are preferable to the alternative.

It’s fallacious of course.
