So if you ever wanted A Surprise Over Phones, I've now got my specialized 1980s DuoFone Cassette Answering Machine hooked up to a toll-free (US) number, thanks to the telephony skills of @gewt.
The only toll-free number you can call with SIMULATED ROSEWOOD GRAIN FINISH!
unless @lazygamereviews has one? damn, he probably does.

Soldering iron time!
And done. My angle snips are missing so the bottom is still terrible

So I got this Socket 370-based SBC and it is in supposedly working condition, but check out these bits here. don't they look like they're supposed to have caps there?
and looking at the bottom, it looks like they got desoldered.
And check it out: I have almost the same card, but a slightly earlier revision and without the network bits populated.
And guess what: CAPS ARE THERE

I started work on a project today: I'm assigning location labels to all the shelves in my storage room, so I can start building a database to keep track of what I have and where it is.
Naturally I'm using the combined power of 1. Barcodes 2. Comic Sans MS
and I'm SHAMELESSLY ripping off the organization scheme that we used back when I was helping organize paper weather records for the US government. They did a lot of things wrong, for sure, but they had some good ideas about how to keep track of where boxes are.

Food is fine, I just think it should be more consensual. I mean, at this point in my life I've eaten like 25,000 times at least, and I wanted to eat maybe 1000 of those times
But apparently if I don't eat, I have to suffer and die?
This is coercive and unethical and I hate it.

bah, damn it. floppy drives take "too much power" to work with an iPad.
APPARENTLY MY POWERED HUB NEEDS TOO MUCH POWER? WHAT

Today's first imaging: This 3-CD set of "Interplay Family Favorites"
This one is next. It's interesting that it mentions Python: I think this disc is from 1994! that'd be some Early Python.

Well I bet THIS is gonna be secure.
On the plus side, it does seem to be invulnerable to standard lockpicks, if only cause this is a micro-USB port, and not a tumbler

lemme know if anyone figures out how to attach GDB to their brain
that'd be handy
amusingly even if that happened, it wouldn't be useful on yourself.
you attach GDB to your brain, your brain pauses, and... you can't use GDB, because YOU'RE PAUSED.

this game case disturbs me
If you don't recognize the VIS logo, it was a deeply weird console made by Tandy/Memorex, the Visual Information System from 1992.
It was a 286 running a version of Windows (!) playing mostly educational games off CD-ROMs.

This is a brief clip from the 2007 film "The Apocalypse" from Faith Films.
and this is a clip from the 2009 film "2012: Supernova" from The Asylum.
See if you can notice any similarities.

There's so many GBA games I want to add to the generator and I CAN'T DO IT FOR ANY OF THEM
The GBA is at the perfect point between old and new where it's Maximum Difficulty to extract fonts from
if it was older, it'd use tile-based fixed-width fonts and it'd be easy
if it was newer, it'd use ASCII/UTF-8 and I could use my automated extraction methods on it

I wanted to post a GIF to Twitter and I was thinking I'd need to get back to a real Pc before I could create the GIF but then I remembered I live in the future and my phone can run python, git, and ffmpeg, so it can make the GIFs
It was all for naught though, cause it turns out mobile-Twitter has a different maximum file size limit than desktop Twitter, because of course it does. Why would it be consistent?

Isometric VHS covers!
This video store had too many copies of The Santa Clause
(but that's true for any store with any number of copies of The Santa Clause)
I needed a non-null-modem serial cable and didn't have one handy and I was too lazy to go find one, so I made one with jumper wires!
and it works! I can autologin to this SBC over serial, thanks to some configuration of /etc/ttys and gettytab and a new bootblock

This is slightly weird. This USB floppy drive doesn't accept the disk in all the way in, it sticks out a tiny bit.
This is a floppy drive "for mac" but it works fine with Windows 10.

WHY DO MOTHERBOARD DESIGNERS PUT CAPS RIGHT NEXT TO THE CPU
that's where the heatsink goes ;_;
in any case, after exploding a PSU, I'm back running my P3 SBC with the correct CPU cooler!
36C, that seems way more reasonable than the 120C I was seeing the other day.

Small brain: The best game is Ocarina of Time
Big brain: The best game is Grand Theft Auto V
Cosmic brain: the best game is THIS
OK so I archived this film for my server and check this out:
It's an hour long, right?
but it's actually just a 7 minute segment repeated!
Watch the log in the middle, it warps back up as they crossfade back to the beginning.

Got in new fans and fixed all 3 FlexATX power supplies.
NO MORE SCREAMING
Next project: Getting this PCI/ISA SBC working.
