So there’s been a lot of well-meaning hand wringing on here lately about working class people in uni/the academy lately, and as a working class person, I have to say that a lot of the middle class assumptions about why we would find things hard are ... offensive. Don’t assume that we have be “deprived” of certain experiences, or that we can’t pronounce words, or we’re behind our peers who came from money. I showed up to uni with three languages (immigrant family/immigrant neighbourhood), opinions on opera, and sophisticated food opinions
