Rick Davis says McCain asked him to read a letter.

“This will be somewhat difficult,” he says, clearing his throat. McCain's letter begins by thanking Americans for allowing him to serve them.

"I’ve made mistakes but hope my love for America will be weighed favorably against them,” McCain says.

A little story: McCain was one of the first senators who made this foreigner feel less lost in DC.

I had just gotten on an (usually senators' only...) elevator in the Russell Building. The doors were closing when suddenly an arm shot between them. It was McCain. 1/? Inside my head I was like, holy shit! I'm in an elevator alone with John McCain! And I was slightly worried he might be mad I was in the elevator. But he wasn't in the slightest. Instead, we asked each other how our days were going. He replied bluntly with some slightly vulgar...

can’t believe I missed the five-year anniversary of this legend throwing back a few brews and swimming across the Detroit River

windsorstar.com/news/local-new… #windsor #YQG I’ll never forget him calling the newsroom *after getting out of jail* to say 1) that the story needed to clarify that he made it across the river 2) the woman referenced in the story was *not* his girlfriend, despite what she might say.

Best. Summer. Internship. Ever.

.@MarkWarner on today's Facebook news: “Today’s disclosure is further evidence that the Kremlin continues to exploit platforms like Facebook to sow division and spread disinformation, and I am glad that Facebook is taking some steps to pinpoint and address this activity." Bad pic, but @simonamangiante just wrapped up her interview with House Intelligence Committee Democrats after about 4 hours behind closed doors. Quotes to come... @simonamangiante Mangiante Papadopoulos slightly walked back her comments about her belief that the FBI entrapped her husband George Papadopoulos but said she did tell the committee that she believes he was set up.

In some non-Strzok news, a little update on the Senate Intelligence Committee’s Russia investigation:

- They seem* to be closing in on the end of interviews. @SenatorBurr, the chairman, tells me they have “a handful” left. "I can’t give you a number but it’s not that many." *Keep in mind they could always add more witnesses to the list. It could still be a little while.

The Senate Intelligence Committee unanimously passed the 2019 Intelligence Authorization Act today. It’s named after late committee staffer Matthew Pollard, who died in April. Here’s what the committee says this IAA does:

“Deter and counter aggression from foreign state actors, such as Russia and China, both at home and abroad;”

Just asked Feinstein about her comment yesterday about being "pressured" to release the Simpson transcript.

"I made no statement to that effect," she said.

Me: but there are recordings of you saying you felt pressured

"I don't believe there are. I don't believe I said that." Me: ...Ok. reporters have the recordings

Feinstein: "it appears in one place, and I saw it, and I'm just telling you, you asked me the question, and the question is, it's not correct"
