I sit here thinking this is what survivors must feel like as I watch republicans steamroll this man over all the witnesses that won't be called or the testimony heard and they annihilate Dr Ford's life. I know I cannot speak from an experience of assault, my wife can, I can't. 1/ I hope my daughter never has to. To tell someone the most horrible thing that has happened to you in front of the world and the men pay you lip service and move on. I know this is nowhere in the same universe of surviving an assault but I feel the rage. I feel powerless. 2/

Most of the power of authoritarianism is freely given. In dark times, people think ahead about what a more repressive government will want, and then offer themselves without being asked. A citizen who adapts in this way is teaching power what it can do.

I continue to be dismayed at the road this country is going down. We embrace dictators. We turn our back on our closest friends. We rip children away from their parents. We rig the system where we steal healthcare from our sick to pay the rich. We deny dreamers their dreams. 1/ We put children in kennels like dogs. We deny the elderly care. We dishonor our veterans and their families who have lost loved ones who sacrificed for this country. We mock the disabled. We allow men to violate women and get away with it.
