In this case I am going to compare & contrast the Roman Legions with the Greek/Macedonian Phalanxes, & maybe at the end talk a bit about cavalry. Both the Legion & Phalanx were heavy infantry units, which meant that they fought in heavy armor & carried large, sturdy shields. Both started out being manned by citizen-soldiers but when empires developed they started to be manned by full-time professional soldiers.
