Was chatting with a friend from Tz, and their relationship with the Chinese in Tz is curiously different. They've learnt Kiswahili, there are intermarriages, and everyone knows disrespecting the country/breaking the law = instant deportation. This was right from the start. It be your own leadership.

Our leadership set off by taking bribes to allow businesses in, giving out work permits like sweets and treating Chinese business folk as superior to us. Now everyone is surprised.

London has launched a campaign dubbed One Less Bottle, to reduce use of single-use water bottles in favour of water fountains that are being installed throughout the city. IMO, this is how you tackle such issues. Give people alternatives, educate them on the better option. Huku kwetu, we just ban stuff. I saw Rwanda has banned use of newspapers in wrapping foods, but no alternatives on offer.

I'm now at that stage where I'm encountering mothers who refer to my 6YO as their sons' girlfriend. Even if they just met. This rubs me the wrong way for a number of reasons: 1. The kids don't yet have this language, and parents are giving it to them because it's "cute".
