1/ Here is what really bothers me about Kavanaugh: he feels he deserves everything he has and will have because he has earned it. This is a uniquely Calvinist-origin ideology. It is also precisely one of the things which **theologically** distinguishes Catholics from Protestants. 2/ The implications are enormous if one considers the reverse scenario: those to whom life has brought hardship are unworthy, lazy, and have not “earned” their way. On Pence. There is a school of thought which argues he is Manafort’s man. I disagree. I have always disagreed with this assessment. It is ok to disagree about this point. Pence is an NRA/Koch man, installed by the Devos/Mercer/Bannon faction. I realize there are articles out there which say Pence was Manafort’s pick and the plane delay, yadda yadda yadda ... I must respectfully disagree. That said, Manafort consented. Pence lied about Flynn. They are all co-conspirators, in my book.

I have a story which may place the whole Kavanaugh - Eureka Club into some context. It is about “swinging” conservative Catholics. A few years ago, my husband and I moved our family into a very nice neighborhood. It was on the water — a boating community. Many of our neighbors belonged to our parish. Many were conservative Catholics. All were Republicans. Anyway, a few weeks after we moved into the neighborhood, I began seeing plastic pink flamingos in people’s yards. I was a runner at the time. I noticed these things.

We are at war — a different kind of war, never before experienced by our citizens. Naivety and tribalist proclivities are our Achilles Heel. The deep need for group acceptance may cause one to trade Roe v Wade for a group high-five of the day. The insatiable need to be popular on social media may tempt one to behave in a herd mentality, lumping individuals into “us and them” binary group dynamics. We’ve been studied. They know what they are doing. This is not a drill. We are being psychologically manipulated.

You are correct. @ ellewoodsruns ignores the active voter suppression of black voters and for her to crassly blame black voters for Trump in this thread is appalling racism. You and others took great effort to point out the VRA issue, which she ignored, to scapegoat black people. When a racist gets called out, then hurries and creates a new account, while changing her screen name, mid-thread. This is despicable behavior.
