Time to settle Mars, my friends! We did it! Also, I lost horribly!

So, I was hanging out with a fellow Eagles fan last night. He'd decided he wasn't going to watch the first few games last year in protest. Then he noticed they were doing really well and he decided he had to keep not watching so they'd keep winning. Once the playoffs rolled around he tried to convince himself it was ok to start watching again. After all he'd only planned to boycott the season and this was the post-season. But he couldn't bring himself to watch because he was afraid that would make them lose.

People most certainly do use the AR-15 to defend themselves and others. Here are some examples:
freebeacon.com/issues/oklahom…
chicagotribune.com/suburbs/aurora…
nbcphiladelphia.com/news/local/Man…
fox2detroit.com/news/shootout-…

Also, the effective range of an AR-15 varies a tremendous amount based on how its set up. That doesn't really mean much when it comes to whether it's suited for defensive use. Pretty much every firearm is effective beyond the distance most self-defense encounters happen at.

Since we're on the topic of @AliVelshi misleading his audience, he and NBC News never responded to my request for comment on his theory that the NRA is conspiring to boost their membership numbers by secretly counting him as a member. freebeacon.com/politics/nra-s… Velshi has never offered any proof at all of his claim and the NRA has denied he is on their membership roles. Oddly, as far as I can tell, after I wrote this piece Velshi hasn't repeated his claim. freebeacon.com/politics/nra-s…

Federal Judge Says Cody Wilson’s First Amendment Rights Being ‘Abridged,’ Rules Against His Settlement with State Department Anyway freebeacon.com/issues/federal… Cody Wilson calls the ruling "clownish" and vows to take the case to the 9th Circuit. freebeacon.com/issues/federal…

Breaking: US District Court Judge Robert S. Lasnik has ruled against the State Department regarding their settlement with Cody Wilson over 3D printed guns. He has issued a preliminary injunction. Judge Lasnik claims that Cody Wilson's First Amendment rights are "currently abridged, but it has not been abrogated" which is fairly stunning.

Good news on the @sigsauerinc P365 front. I cleaned the channel that the striker sits in after I had 6 light primer strikes in the first 150 rounds. This outing, I had zero misfires in 100 rounds. So, better. I need to put several hundred more rounds through it before I trust it to perform as my carry gun. It's bizarre that the striker channel would be dirty enough to cause problems with a brand new gun. But if that's the only problem then I guess that's the best case scenario.

Tech company efforts to go after gun rights activists at the center of the 3D-printed gun controversy continue to pick up. Now Shopify has terminated Cody Wilson's retail account without explanation. freebeacon.com/issues/online-… First Amazon took down the servers that hosted CodeIsFreeSpeech.com. Then Facebook blocked all content which included links to CodeIsFreeSpeech.com. Now Shopify has shut down Cody Wilson/Defense Distributed's online storefront. freebeacon.com/issues/online-…

The attempted censorship of a website run by a coalition of gun rights groups is far more aggressive than anything we've seen with Alex Jones. Amazon took down their hosting. Facebook has blocked any post with a link to the site in it. freebeacon.com/issues/gun-rig… Here's what happens if you try to share Codeisfreespeech.com on Facebook. Facebook told me they are removing all content associated with the site from their platform.

The claims that this court filing indicate the NRA is in dire financial straits are ridiculous. This is a filing in their case against New York's efforts to dissuade companies from working with the NRA. It outlines the real and hypothetical harm involved. drive.google.com/file/d/15Ld2KE… The filing is specifically designed to show they New York's threat that they'll use state power to punish companies that work with the NRA had an negative effect on them and could have further negative effects, including potential (in theory) catastrophic ones.

The temporary restraining order issued in the 3D printed gun case is pretty interesting because it doesn't appear to enjoin Cody Wilson, Defense Distributed, or the Second Amendment Foundation. Instead the order is enjoining the State Department. scribd.com/document/38514… The judge is, in effect, telling the State Department they can't settle with Cody Wilson and SAF but isn't telling Wilson and SAF anything.

Nearly everything you're hearing about 3D printed guns right now is false. Gun blue prints are and have long been readily available on the internet. A simple Google search shows this. The thing every politician, activist, and media personality warns will end the world tomorrow has literally been happening everyday since these blueprints were created.

I don't think people really understand how many guns American civilians own. The Small Arms Survey was just updated this week and found there are about 400 million civilian-owned guns in the US. freebeacon.com/issues/april-s… This, of course, makes is by far the #1 in civilian gun ownership in the world with the next closest being India at about 70 million. There are more civilian-owned guns in the US than their are people Most people, I think, understand that but don't really grasp what it means.

The DOD investigated the improper handling of military dog adoptions but essentially ignored the allegations that one company the Army gave dogs to tried to sell them to foreign governments as their handlers desperately tried to adopt them. freebeacon.com/issues/dod-rep… It appears the DOD will do nothing for the kennel owner who remains on the verge of bankruptcy after caring for the dogs which the Army inappropriately gave to a private contractor that went belly up. freebeacon.com/issues/dod-rep…

Learning the terminology of firearms isn't a trivial thing. Otherwise you won't know if you're advocating banning and confiscating tens of millions of guns, hundreds of millions of guns, or advocating a ban on guns that are already banned. Those aren't small differences. Assault rifles are fully-automatic guns and new sales of them to civilians has been banned since 1986.

Assault weapons are semi-automatic guns and there are likely tens of millions of them in civilian hands.

Semi-automatic firearms likely make up a large majority of all guns.

Finally home and watching the recording. I'm about 10 minutes into the CNN town hall and it's a total mess. Tapper tried to get a hold of things but this event seemed destined to be a mess from the very beginning.

Pretty much every detail in this piece is wrong. If I worked for NBC News, I'd be embarrassed by this nonsense. nbcnews.com/news/us-news/a… Prohibited persons can't even legally posses firearms, let alone manufacture them. Not that it matters much since the report says the shooter wasn't a prohibited person, though I've seen conflicting reports on that.
