Who wants some LCD Soundsysten tweets??? 1) they really didn’t pick the right singles to pre-release on the last album. oh baby and tonite are total masterpieces that I would say are top 10-12(ish) songs for them. Also oh baby is a perfect album opener, even ending with the 💯 “there’s always a side door into the dark”

IMPT: The absolute height of hypocrisy.

Chairman Goodlatte has hearing today to ban all nationwide injunctions. People can disagree abt these, but not is this only now bc of DACA rulings, but in 2015 he PRAISED the nationwide injunction that stopped DAPA. breitbart.com/big-government… More on this:

In 2015, there was a Nationwide Injunction out of Judge Hanen's Federal Court in the 5th circuit blocking implementation of Expanded DACA & DAPA. This prevented up to 5 million undocumented immigrants with strong ties to the US from getting renewable work permits.

Good Morning! Here's a quick thread about how public activism--from millions of Americans who usually haven't spoken out--has made a huge difference in the last year! 1) 1 year ago today, the Trump administration announced it would end DACA. Throughout the entire campaign, they promised to end DACA and Day 1. But starting in the hours after Nov 6th, a furious effort began from all corners of the country began to stop--or at least slow--this.

Been out of the office, so just caught this over weekend. Seems a good opportunity to make a few points clear on policy--and also it seems there is some things where language was imprecise and/or out of context & could use some more clarification. Thread-> denverpost.com/2018/08/22/mik… So Congressman Coffman was the original house author of the Bridge Act, which was a temporary solution for the current 700k DACA recipients (which we supported). His leadership to act quickly 22 months ago was critical.

A thread that connects a few things that are very connected but treated separately.

So lets start here: in an hour, your taxpayer dollars will pay for the USCIS Director to speak to a group called the Center for Immigration Studies.

This is very bad & important...1/6 CIS, along with NumbersUSA & FAIR, were founded by the same man, John Tanton, a proud white supremacist-by his own definition-who believed in radical population reduction and eugenics of non-desirable (read: not white) populations and doing everything to bar them from the US. 2/6

Good Morning. Here's an update on where things stand in the wake of the United States government ripping thousands of children away from their parents at the border. There is good news and bad news and inspiring news and very bad news. A quick thread ---> 1) TODAY is the deadline for the govt to re-unify the over 2,500 families it pulled apart in May and June. We don't have updated numbers but we believe they have reunited only between 40%-50% of those families as of late last night...

GOOD MORNING: Want to know what happened yesterday because people like you are fighting hard to stop the cruel child separation & zero tolerance policy AND start to reunite some families? Well there is some good news to share...1/4 A daughter who was separated from her mother is reunited in Nashville:

NEWS on DACA - Late tonight, DOJ filed in the DC court a memo from the DHS Secretary. This was in response to the Judge essentially telling the government that if it wanted to end DACA, it needed to revamp and give much better reasons...(thread) This will NOT change anything immediately - I want to be clear on that. We believe the BIG next inflection--and potential crisis point--is likely on or just after August 8th when Judge Hanen in TX has his hearing on a different DACA case--BUT tonight's filing is a BIG deal bc...

NEW: Judge rejects Trump admin effort to force change to Flores. DOJ wanted to allow 4 indefinite jailing of kids with their parents. Calls manufactured crisis “cynical attempt...t’and ill-considered Executive action that have led to the current stalemate” politico.com/story/2018/07/… Manufacturing a crisis (taking 4,100 kids from their parents) is NOT a legal reason to allow for children to be jailed indefinitely with their parents. Building 25-100k new jail beds for immigrants & asylum seekers is wrong—as alternatives to detention have a great track record.

Why are people out in the scorching heat in record numbers?

1) The current Administration has implemented a devastating new policy of separating young children - including infants - from their mothers and fathers at the border as their parents are attempting to claim asylum... 2) The immigration executive order does NOT end the ‘zero tolerance’ policy, which is entirely new and was created by the Administration; instead, they are pressing ahead to present indefinite child/family detention as somehow an acceptable alternative...

WEDNESDAY NIGHT ACTION ITEMS:
1) Call Congress. Keeping calling. Today is WORKED and a bill that allowed indefinite family detention FAILED. KEEP demanding they push the admin to reunite 2,300 kids & families & VOTE AGAINST indefinite family detention.... 2) Go to familiesbelongtogether.org & join a rally near you for THIS Saturday

I've known @JoeCrowleyNY for about a dozen years. There are few nicer, more decent and caring individuals I've met. He's an incredible champion for fixing our immigration system and has fought for criminal justice reform. He's really good at being a Member of Congress... ...and that isn't something I saw lightly. I'm thankful for what Joe is done. I'm thankful for what his team has done - many of whom are friends and doing incredible work as well. When I was a 24 year old DCCC staffer, he took me seriously; when I worked in the delegation...

Re-upping our statement:
During his campaign, then-candidate Trump advocated for a religious test for people to come to this country, repeatedly calling for a ‘total and complete shutdown of Muslims entering the United States.’ He said this over and over and over again... including in his signature statement entitled ‘Preventing Muslim Immigration.’ The travel ban is the policy manifestation of these words, and words matter, particularly when they come from the President of the United States. We are deeply disappointed by today’s decision....

Some context on the huge number of very large policy developments that are very likely to come in just the next month:

1) This week (as soon as this morning) SCOTUS will rule on the travel ban. 2) There could be a vote in the house Wed/Thursday on GOP-only bill that pairs protections for some dreamers with cuts to legal immigration, $25 billion for a wall & with a change to allow for the indefinite detention of families and kids.
Note: @FWD_us opposes.
