Look how cute we are tbh. This makes it look like we're really good at taking selfies together when, in fact, he's awful at posing.
Samson, plz look at the camera ffs.

The view from my room in France is a little bit magical this morning. I’m here for my mum and stepdad’s “not-wedding” (Celtic handfasting and other hippy stuff, but no legal marriage), so today I’m making these gorgeous paper flower decorations with my mum and her sister-in-law 😍🎉🌺

This guy is in the Guardian claiming that graduates are overqualified for their jobs in England and NI because they don't have skills for graduate jobs, with no evidence, and no mention that there's a MASSIVE lack of graduate jobs in NI in particular???

theguardian.com/money/2018/sep… My job is considered a school-leaver job, and I'm overqualified. I'm not in this job because I lack degree-level skills (the fact that I'm also doing a funded PhD would indicate I'm at a decent graduate skill level), but because there weren't grad jobs that suited my degrees.

Cannae believe that Jonathan Bell and I have exactly the same drunk patter. To think, if strangford had voted a bit more Green, there could have been two MLAs drunkenly stumbling around Ards singing Breakfast at Tiffany’s very loudly (not together though, obvs, he was still a DUPer). Aren’t yous all sad you missed out on that.

It's apparently #WorldSuicidePreventionDay so:

I've been v deeply suicidal at various stages of my life, for various reasons. Friends, family and meds have helped me get to a stage where I'm mentally healthier than ever and it doesn't cross my mind for weeks at a time ♥️ My worst suicidal period, and the time I was most in danger, I was still going to work, uni, and probably didn't seem much other than a bit down. Friends & family helped me feel safe enough to admit how bad it was and get better support - providing that space is so important!

This thread on the Impossible Task in depression is very true and very familiar.

*looks pointedly at envelope that's been on my desk for months that I just need to get a stamp for and post* One of the best things someone can do for me when I get bogged down in Impossible Tasks is to basically handhold me through whatever incredibly basic thing I'm unable to do. (That's if they can't just do the thing themselves in about 2 minutes)

To all the men in political meetings who have not only presented my point as their own but also somehow made it shitter by misunderstanding what I was saying and clearly not thinking it through, only for another man to point out the shit bit and correct it and get credit To all the men in politics who asked what a "pretty young thing" like me was doing at political meetings/hustings/events

I work 2-5.30pm, three days a week, and have done for over six months. Every single time, I eat something at 11am, am too full to eat lunch before I go, and end up starving on the bus home at 6pm. I need a responsible adult. I probably just need to bring snacks and have a little snack break mid afternoon but that sounds even more organised than eating breakfast and lunch at normal breakfast and lunch times.

One of the Syrian refugee children in the library just finished a sentence with "eh" so I'm glad to see they're settling into Dundee. They were in again today.

5 year old: "Here Mariam, do you remember last week when we were eating apples? They were really yummy, eh?"

But she had to ask for translation of tomatoes from Arabic. Wee cuties.

[harassment, sexism]

This evening I was waiting for a bus home and it was about a 15 min wait, with drunk folk about, so I had my headphones on, & was staring at my shoes.

An older, clearly drunk man at the bus stop decided to feel me up, and no one else said anything. He put his arm around me first, then tried to slide it down so he could grab my bum. He was speaking as well but I had my headphones on so I couldn’t hear. There were about 10-15 other people at the bus stop, so I quickly stepped away from him and moved as far away as possible.

Looking far too cute and awake for before 8.30am on a Saturday 😭 Full face makeup with absolutely no eye makeup is a Look that I've been enjoying a lot recently. No faffing with eyeliner or mascara or anything.

every so often I'm just living my normal life and will have a flashback to boarding school that I thought was sort of normal at the time and now realise is fucking wild

todays was that about half of my house ate fried egg on nutella toast for breakfast every weekend 🤮 I refused to ever try it, but I don't think I can really criticise because my breakfast every morning at that stage was toast with Philadelphia cream cheese and strawberry jam, which seems almost as bad now?

I was just about to throw some packaging in the recycling when I realised this weird packing stuff might be the kind of thing the piggles would like to nibble on and next in. I was right 😂😍 (Cleaning their home is on my to-do for today, plz excuse the state of it after a whole five days, they’re filthy wee cuties)

I had Dave the hamster who I loved dearly. Also later Frisky the hamster who I sold in a car boot sale. And Prince Snuggles the kitten who ran away (presumably because of the awful name). More recently, Samson and Delilah are my mum’s dogs, and they are Perfect

While I totally sympathise with this idea, libraries are massively underfunded in many places, resulting in inaccessible opening times and reduced stock; also people who have insecure or illegal living conditions might not feel comfortable registering their personal info to read! I totally wish everyone went to the library before going to bookshops or Amazon or wherever, but the fact is that they're not as accessible as online shopping, for the most part. We try really hard to make sure they are but there are still gaps and that's not the readers' fault!

I literally just got a book by Joanne Harris from the library last week and was going to include it in the video I’m making but now I don’t want to b/c she’s been so crap about people buying discounted books 😡 I work in a library so I’m very lucky to have very easy access to a really wide range of books, but a lot of people might not have a work schedule, routine, housing security, or anything else that would allow them to feel able to borrow from libraries!

Currently hearing about Maoist French doctors in the 1970s seeing the Karman method of abortion as "true revolutionary practice" and how illegal abortions in France helped solidify the women's liberation movement
(Why do Maoists always pop up in the oddest ways?)
#reproactivism Really fascinating to hear about how providing illegal abortion procedures was seen as actual leftist practice in France, rather than just an idea to support - activists trained to provide the procedure safely and in ways that women had control
