Tonight, two Baltimore police officers were found guilty of robbery, racketeering & conspiracy in a major corruption case. #GTTFtrial
The #GTTF (Gun Trace Task Force) was a Baltimore PD unit charged with getting illegal guns off the streets. 8 officers on the force were indicted in the trial.

Just as there was a slowdown in homicides after the 2nd Baltimore Ceasefire in November, there's been an even MORE impressive slowdown in homicides after the 3rd Baltimore Ceasefire held Feb. 2-4.

This strengthens the case that it's not policing, but the power of the people.
If efforts of @BmoreCeasefire & Baltimore residents could help slow and prevent violence and homicides so dramatically, then that goes back to the question of why do we need the Baltimore Police Department at all.

What we always needed was peacebuilding from within.
We need a Baltimore Peacebuilding Authority to address crime and violence, not the Baltimore Police Department.

Peacebuilding centers conflict mediation, public health, mental health, and connecting people with resources to turn away from violence and crime.

Mayor Pugh reached out to me today to express that she believed her words had been distorted. While it was not clear from the Facebook DM’s she sent me, I gleaned that she felt anger was motivating this “distortion” and that I and others should be more generous and less angry
I watched the video of her statement and I stand by the claim I made here last night. She didn’t mean to say she was too busy to follow the #GTTFtrial but SHE DID SAY it.
Undeniable is that prior to expressing concern and surprise she made multiple excuses for not following the trail as closely as the reporter seemed to suggest she should be.
