BREAKING: A Seattle federal court just extended an injunction to temporarily block distribution of downloadable guns online; @Everytown filed an amicus brief in the case, urging the court to continue to block the Trump Administration allowance of online computer code distribution
Public concern over the dangers of downloadable guns is mounting. Military vets and LEOs are speaking out against the dangers of downloadable guns. A recent poll found a bipartisan majority of Americans believe downloadable gun blueprints shouldn't be available on the internet.
Now it's time for Congress to act. Text OMG to 644-33 to tell your member of Congress to support the federal legislation that permanently prohibits the posting of any downloadable gun computer code that can be used to program a 3D printer to print a firearm. #stopdownloadableguns

President Trump said 3D-printed guns don’t “make much sense,” but his administration was in court this week arguing they should be legal. @Everytown filed an amicus brief in the case, urging the court to extend the temporary restraining order. bloomberg.com/news/articles/…
On Tuesday, a federal court will decide if a temporary injunction blocking the Trump Administration’s permission to allow the online dissemination of downloadable guns should continue. The case is being brought by a bipartisan group of attorneys general from 19 states and DC.
Eight out of 10 Americans say 3D-printed gun blueprints shouldn't be available on the internet — a consensus on gun policy that cuts across party and ideological lines, according to a new Axios/SurveyMonkey poll. #StopDownloadableGuns

These so-called “ghost guns” are as terrifying as they sound. They can pass through metal detectors undetected. They have no serial numbers, so law enforcement can’t trace them. And anyone can buy a 3D printer and make themselves a firearm with no background check at all.
For those naively saying there's no reason for concern about 3D printed guns because 3D printers are expensive - well, 3D printers once weighed hundreds of pounds & cost thousands, but today you can put one on your desk for less than 1k, and they're only getting cheaper.
The bottom line is that with new technology comes new responsibility. We cannot let innovation render our background check system or federal gun safety laws obsolete. #StopDownloadableGuns

The Attorneys Generals’ lawsuit, which lead to the temporary injunction, followed a legal roadmap laid out in a legal action filed late last week by @Everytown, the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence and Giffords Law Center to Prevent Gun Violence. washingtonpost.com/news/morning-m…
The court temporarily blocking a company run by a self-proclaimed anarchist from posting more downloadable gun blueprints online until a hearing on August 10.
In the meantime, we need Congress to do the right thing and pass legislation to permanently block these blueprints from ever being published. Join us to stay informed in this issue; text JOIN to 64433.

The @NRA says criminals will never follow laws, except when it comes to ghost guns. Got it.

#StopDownloadableGuns
The @NRA knows federal law isn't good enough, given the development of modern technologies, and they have resisted strengthening it. In addition, Cody Wilson designed his signature gun to make it easy to defeat the law.
Publishing these blueprints *is the single quickest, most efficient possible way to enable lawbreakers.* The @NRA knows the law is exceedingly difficult to enforce if 3D printers are commercially available and all-plastic code/blueprints are legal and readily available.

The Trump Administration can take action today to keep these deadly blueprints from further undermining American gun laws. To protect the public, the president should direct the State Department to block any further publishing of the designs for downloadable, untraceable guns.
The State Department has the power – and responsibility – to immediately rescind the special exception that currently allows a private company to publish these blueprints and change the proposed rule to allow for the continued regulation of these dangerous blueprints.

URGENT THREAD: A few days from now, *anyone* with a regular internet connection and a 3D printer will be able to make their own untraceable guns in just a couple clicks. This includes terrorists and people who can’t pass a background check.
Incomprehensibly, the Trump @StateDept is about to allow a company run by a self-proclaimed anarchist to post its gun blueprints online in files that can be sent directly to a 3D printer to print guns on demand. wired.com/story/a-landma…
To add more danger to this situation, many of these guns can be printed entirely in plastic, so metal detectors won’t catch them. These plastic guns could easily be snuck onto airplanes, into music festivals and government buildings.
