#thread My first exposure to planning came in my junior year of high school. I had discovered my passion for history and had worked for six years in local governance (prosecutor's office, community food co-op). #SoJustSuburbs /1
Learning urban design in a suburban context led me to ask questions about the limitations of traditional planning education. #SoJustSuburbs #SaturdaySchool /2
At the heart of these questions, I focused on the life of William Harris, a farmer worker with intellectual disabilities who worked on central NJ plantations, 1932-1961. The "rural" was rarely a factor in planning conversations. #SoJustSuburbs #SaturdaySchool /3

1/ In processing my own Whiteness and the Whiteness I share with colleagues and students, I found these comments by Austin Channing Brown @austinchanning to be spot-on:
2/ "...white people who believe they are safe often prove dangerous when that identity is challenged." (I'm Still Here, p. 101) #truth #whiteness
3/ "When white people stop short of reconciliation, it's often because they are motivated by a deep need to believe in their own goodness, and for that goodness to be affirmed over and over and over again." (I'm Still Here, p. 171) #truth #whiteness

Reopening the Emmett Till case after 60 years,
after his mother and other close family that should have felt the victory of Justice are dead. After the "white" people who murdered him and cheered his murder have lived full, free lives.

This has nothing to do with justice
This is a White American pattern:
They they steal the life of a "black" person in the most depraved & barbaric way;
then their cops protect the murderer, their judges sit on benches and calls the murder justified and the white community claps their hands or shrugs their shoulders
They live comfortably with the blood of "Black" people on their hands & at their feet for decades; so long that their children are born stained in our blood and marked by their crimes
They go on, morphing into new phases of #whiteness leaving behind thousands more like Emmet Till

From 2015–before #metoo #churchtoo #silenceisnotspiritual. #THIS is most white-male-centered narcissistic drivel I have ever read in my entire life. @JohnPiper claims scripture is his authority then offers no exegesis of any text. “Principles” instead. 1/ desiringgod.org/interviews/sho…
Teaching “principles” rather than teaching excellent exegesis is a narcissistic tactic of control. ANYONE can claim the scripture says ANYTHING when they leave the scripture out. Brings followers into close relationship w/ leader, but leaves them not knowing Jesus (The Word). 2/
What .@JohnPiper did here was unbelievably manipulative. Demonstrated #ZERO submissiveness to scripture. Has nerve to guilt/shame women into “submission to scripture” then offers #NONE. Only offers his own “principles,” which scripture would drop-kick. 3/
