THE YORUBA DEMON PT3
“Wheew!” Segun heaved a sigh of relief after a huge bout of samankwe.
“I’m glad you enjoyed it. Expect more when we get married.” Jenifer grinned.
“Married? Who?” Segun asked.
“Segun, what are we?”
He ignored her and turned the other direction.
Issa thread.
“Segun, answer me.” Jennifer screamed.
“Oh jenny, It’s a short night. can’t a gentleman have peace in his house?” Segun said bitterly.
“Segun, I know how you worshipped my feet before you got me to your bed. You’ve changed.”
She kept ranting.
Segun Ignored her. She noticed he was not in the mood for argument.
She moved closer to him and caressed his back.
“Segun, I love you. Why are you doing this to me?” she said in a low tone.
He pushed her hand, rose from the bed and left to the guest room, she followed.
His reaction.
“After all the time and energy I have invested in this relationship, Is this how you choose to treat me.”
“What time and which energy? Just let me be.” Segun barked.
She tried to hold him back.
Segun’s reply.👇
“Segun, Is this how you’ll use me. Like a piece of tissue?”
“Use who? I spent money on you. I used my energy on you. On bed I released semen. If there’s anyone that should complain about being used, It’s me.”
He slammed the door on her.
“Segun, I’m so sorry. I still love you. If I have done anything wrong please forgive me.” She cried.
Segun stood at the other end of the door. He grinned with Joy.
She cried all night.
Hearing women cry in pain had become sweet music to his ears.
The next morning.
He opened the door and saw her lying on the floor.
She had cried till she slept beside the door.
“This one hasn’t learnt her lesson.” he thought to himself.
As he crossed her. She held his leg.
“Segun, don’t leave me please. I still love you.”
He gave her a look of pity.
“Get up.” he said.
She rose in a twinkle of an eye.
He pointed at the bed in his room.
She walked in.
“Segun, forgive me If I have done anything wrong. I’m sorry for disturbing your sleep last night.”
He kept mute.
He ripped her nightgown, and pushed her to the bed.
She gave him a puzzled look.
He mounted her and began another bout of samankwe.
Jenifer let him have his way. She was ready to do anything to salvage her relationship.
When he was done. She moved closer to him.
“Segun, You see, I am ready to do anything to make you happy.”
He left the room without saying anything.
She followed him round the house.
“Segun, what more should I do to make you happy? Just tell me anything.”
He kept mute.
“Segun talk to me!” She cried as she held him.
“Jenifer, I am tired of you!”
Those words pierced her heart. She couldn’t believe her ears.
“Segun, look into my eyes and tell me you meant what you said.”
“Do you need your ancestors to come down and give you advice before you realize I am tired of you?”
Jenifer Cried.
“I have done everything possible to make you happy. I have given my all to you Segun. I have asked for forgiveness when I have done no wrong. What have I done to deserve this?”
Segun ignored her and moved to the kitchen.
There was a long silence. They stared at each other till the water heater gave a signal.
“I am leaving.” Jenifer said in tears.
Those words did not move segun. He sipped his tea and watched her leave.
She turned back as she opened the door.
“I hope it won’t be too late before you realise what you’ve done. I’ll be praying for you.”
Segun’s reply.
She left. Segun laughed.
“Another one bites the rust.” He thought to himself.
“Wheew! This one stayed long sha. On to the next one joor!” He grinned.
Segun had become heartless. A serial heart breaker without remorse.
He repeated the cycle with different women.
He had become a master in the game. He felt a dopamine rush whenever he broke hearts. The urge to do more thrilled him like a drug user anticipating his next crack.
“Good people don’t deserve” love he thought to himself.
Like a scientist, He had invented different means of breaking hearts.
From ending relationships over text messages.
To proposing to 2 sisters at the same time.
To disappearing without a trace from a relationship.
He wasn’t done yet. Despite the numerous hearts he broke. He still felt empty. The urge to do more hardened him.
He felt terrible whenever the ladies moved on and had a happy life with another man.
“I need to step up my game.” He thought.
He haunted for ladies in their mid 30s but couldn’t find any that suited his mission.
He suspended his search and travelled to Kenya for a movie production.
He was at a bar when he heard a man screaming at a woman. The deafening slaps caught his attention.
As he approached them the slaps manifested to punches.
He quickly rushed to save her.
The man tried to wrestle him. A resounding punch from Segun was enough to knock him off. The people at the bar applauded Segun’s bravery.
It was the first time he did good for a woman in a while.
At least he still had a piece of gentleman in him.
As he left the scene to his table.
The lady ran after him.
“Sir! Sir!” she called.
“Thank you for saving me from that evil man.”
“If only she knew she was meeting a greater devil.” He thought to himself.
He had a second look at her.
She was in her late thirties. Beautiful but traumatized.
“I can’t stand physical abuse on women.” he said.
She had a second look at her knight in shinning armour and gave him a look of gratitude.
Segun replied the gesture with a flirty wink.
“I am Dalila, and you’re?”
“I’m Segun.” He replied
“Wow. You’re Nigerian?”
“Yeah” He replied wryly.
“I’ve always wanted to come to Nigeria.”
“It’s a beautiful place. Hope you’ll find time to come with your husband.” He said.
“I am still single. James is just my boyfriend. He is a beast. I was tired of his beatings and told him I had enough when he pounced on me again. Thank goodness you came.”
“I’m so sorry, hope you’ll find the right man someday. I’m also on the search for the right woman.” Segun said in a flirty tone.
They exchanged numbers and left.
Segun knew she had been through enough. He thought of aborting his mission on her. He deleted her number and set his focus on the next target.
Dalila kept calling but he chose to ignore her.
Weeks later.
He was surprised to see Dalila on the set of his movie.
“I have searched everywhere for you.” She said.
“I’m sorry, I wanted to give you time to heal. Besides I’ve been very busy with my shoot.”
“Wow. You’re a film director. I admire your profession.”
“Thank you.” He said.
“I would love to see you more. I haven’t been myself since I saw you.” she said.
“No problem, I’ll be in kenya for a very long time.” He lied.
With time, he and Dalila bonded.
Without defining the relationship they were convinced they were dating.
It didn’t take long before she found herself in Segun’s bed.
She made his stay in Kenya comfortable.
A week to Segun’s departure.
“I wouldn’t want us to date for long as age is not on my side.” Dalila said.
Segun’s reaction.
Dalila’s Pressure to get married was understandable. Segun could sense her desperation.
He wanted to end the affair immediately on hearing this but he didn’t want a repeat episode of Jennifer’s scene.
The demon in him urged him to give her a shot of his wickedness but he battled with it. He felt he needed to try something new.
“let’s get married.” segun said.
Dalila’s eyes lit. It was a dream come true for her.
“When?” She asked.
“I haven’t made any plan, I’m still new here.” He said.
“We can do a court wedding. It does not require much.” She advised.
“Fine, after that you can follow me to Nigeria.” He assured.
She leaped for Joy and gave him a hug.
A date was fixed for their court wedding.
Wedding Day.
Dalila was elegantly dressed. They arrived at the court.
Her friends and family were present.
“Baby, where is your family.” Dalila asked.
“They are on their way. They just left the hotel” Segun said.
Minutes later Segun received a call.
“Honey, It’s my family. Let me get them here.” He said as he set to leave.
“Can I join you?”
“Don’t bother. I want to surprise them. Just stay here. Promise?”
“I promise.” She grinned.
Segun left.
An hour later, Segun hadn’t returned.
Dalila was getting worried.
She searched everywhere for Segun. He was nowhere to be found. She tried his line, it was switched off.
Her family tried to console her. Couples that came after them, wedded and left.
It was getting late. The court was about to close when she received a text message from a foreign number.
The message read. “THE PERSON THAT WILL MARRY YOU WILL BE VERY LUCKY. YOURS TRUTHFULLY, SEGUN.”
Dalila fainted.
Segun arrived Nigeria. Mission accomplished he thought to himself.
He Logged into facebook and searched for Dalila’s profile to block and unfriend her when he saw the shock of his life.
Both the Demon and Angel in him were shocked.
There was ‘RIP’ written all over her page.
As he scrolled down to get more information. He realized she committed suicide. Drug overdose was the cause.
Segun felt bitter. Revenge was all he wanted. Being the cause for another person’s death was the last thing he expected.
He wailed.
He opened his diary and turned to a list of hearts he had broken.
He dialled their numbers one after the other to apologize.
He was glad most of them had moved on.
Some cursed him, but it was nothing compared to the guilt he felt.
Of all the girls he met, Jenifer and Dalilah were his best.
They were pure in heart and never deserved his ill treatment. With Dalilah dead, he decided to search for Jenifer.
He rushed to her house. She had relocated. The last anyone had heard from her was 9months ago. Same period he let her go.
He searched everywhere for Jenifer. All efforts proved futile. He gave up on the search. ‘The best I can do is turn a new leaf.” He thought to himself.
He headed to a church to make confessions.
As he left the church, he met a familiar face.
It was Jenifer.
Segun fell on his knees.
“Jenifer, I am sorry for all I put you through. Words cannot express the guilt I feel in my heart. Forgive me.”
If you were in Jennifer's shoes, what would you do?
Tears streamed down Jenifer’s Cheeks. She struggled to speak but words failed her.
“Segun, I loved you. I didn’t deserve such treatment. Your actions turned me into a beast. I have hurt those who loved me because of you. I have tried to move on but all I feel is hatred for men.” She said.
“I have been down that road. No matter how much revenge you take on people, you’ll still feel empty. Only true love can fill that void.” He said.
“That’s why, I’m here for counselling.” She replied.
Segun explained everything to her. He narrated his journey from true love to Heartbreak to revenge to the death of Dalila.
Jenifer was shocked. She felt sorry for him.
“I have forgiven you.” She said faintly.
Segun hugged her.
With time he joined Jenifer’s counselling sessions.
They helped him heal.
Segun and Jenifer turned a new leaf. They got married and lived happily ever after.
