THE FEMINIST – PT2
“Dad, you wanted having a word with me.” Amanda inquired.
“Yes dear. You just turned 31, and we are yet to see any man.”
“Marriage is not an accomplishment.” Amanda said.
Mum and Dad’s reaction.

Amanda had grown a deep hatred for men due to her past experiences. She turned down several suitors.
She focused on being a strong independent woman. With hard work and determination she rose to the Top of her career, Owning fleet of cars and a mansion to boast of. She became a role model to many women.
Despite her accomplishments, Her parents were unhappy.
“Dad, I don’t need a man to make me fulfilled.” She said
“Rama-shaka-reke-kirobo! My enemies are at work.” Amanda’s mum screamed.
“Something is seriously wrong with you. So you have Joined the children of the world.” Amanda’s dad thundered.
“The next thing you’ll tell me is that you’re now a Lesbian.” Her mum wailed.
“Mum, You’re taking it too far.”
“Shut Up! What could be worse than this?” Her dad asserted.
Amanda couldn’t bear the hurl of insults. She decided to leave.
“Amanda, Don’t you dare turn your back on us.” Her mum said.
She ignored her and turned the door knob.
“The minute you leave this house, you cease to be my daughter.” Mr Coker exclaimed.
Those words hit her. She paused.
“I Join people in holy matrimony every Saturday. I bless marriages every Sunday. When will I bless your own?” Her dad said.
“Dad I’m sorry for all I put you through, but It’s my decision.”
Her mum’s reaction.👇
“Rebaka-moko-shikaraba. The devil is a liar.” Amanda's Mum said as she poured anointing oil on her.
Amanda was rooted to the spot.
She struggled to tolerate her mums drama as the anointing oil stained her expensive gown.
Her dad’s words were the only thing that prevented her from leaving.
“Ok dad, I’m sorry. But I have to leave now, I have an important meeting to catch.”
“There’s no meeting as important as meeting a suitor.” Her dad said.
“Make sure you bring a man as you step out.” Her mum added.
Thoughts of her parents’ confrontation clouded her mind.
On several occasions she tried to confide in her parents but their holier than thou attitude towards lesser issues held her back.
On this faithful day, her phone rang. It was her mum.
“Amanda, you’re needed urgently.”
Before she could utter a word, the call ended.
She wondered what the emergency could be.
She rushed to her parent’s house.
She was surprised to see a lot of guests there. She wondered what could have happened.
“Welcome, my dear daughter, Meet Pastor Kunle, He is the G.O. of divine heritage.” Her mum said.
“Nice to meet you sir.”
“And this is his son Bayo. He just returned from the United states.”
She had a second look at him, he was really tall, dark skinned and handsome. Any girl would be proud to introduce him as her man. The former Amanda would drool over him, but life had given her a thick skin.
“Nice to meet you.” Bayo said as he stretched out his hand.
“Thank you.” she said wryly looking uninterested.
Her mum dragged her to the kitchen.
“That young man Just returned from the states. He is in need of a wife. Besides He is much more successful than you. Since you’ve used your wealth to scare suitors.” Her Mum said.
Amanda was vexed on hearing this. She left the house angrily.
As she left, she bumped into Bayo who was carrying drinks from the boot of his SUV, all the drinks scattered on the floor.
“I’m sorry.” Amanda said.
“Its Ok. Where can I get another one?” Bayo asked looking at the broken pieces of bottles on the floor.
“The nearest grocery store is 2km from here. She’ll take you there.” Amanda’s mum who had watched the entire drama said.
Amanda’s reaction.
It was a quiet drive.
Bayo tried to start a conversation.
“Amanda, I’ve heard a lot about you. I’m very proud of you.” He said.
“And what have you heard?” She asked.
“That you run a chain of successful businesses despite being the regional manager at a reputable auditing firm.”
“If that’s all you’ve heard, Then you don’t know me.” She retorted.
“I know you to an extent. You are very active on twitter. Twice we’ve had an argument on the #menarescum and you blocked me.” He said.
“I’m sorry. Hope I wasn’t too tough on you?”
“You were, but its ok.” Bayo grinned.
They arrived at the grocery store.
A: “What’s amusing you?”
B: “You’re more polite in reality than on social media.”
A: “Really?”
B: “Yeah, You’ve created a thick wall on social media. I love this side of you.”
“You sound learned. What made me block you?” She asked.
“You lambasted Buhari’s speech stating women belong to the other room.”
“And what was your opinion?” She asked.
“I simply said no matter the level of success a woman achieves, she must also be successful in the other room.”
“I remember you!” She exclaimed.
“You blocked me instantly. What I said wasn’t as bad as the others.”
“I was angry that day, I blocked everybody that did not support my opinion. Especially the males.” She explained.
“It’s not fair. I am a strong advocate of feminism and I love the movement. In the US, Feminism is all about about girl power, but here in Africa we’ve turned it to hatred for men.” Bayo insisted.
She gave him a stern look.
“I’m sure I would have been blocked by now if it were on twitter.” Bayo Joked.
Amanda burst into uncontrollable laughter. Bayo was amazed.
“I love the way you laugh.”
“Thank you.” She blushed.
It was a fun drive home as Bayo cracked jokes from twitter streets. Amanda couldn’t stop laughing.
They arrived home.
“I see you guys are catching up.” Her mum said as she gave Amanda a wink.
Amanda’s reaction.
After the meeting, They exchanged numbers.
“Hope you’ll unblock me?” Bayo joked.
“I’ve done that already.” She grinned.
With time Bayo was able to break all her defenses. There was something different about him.
He encouraged Feminism, but made her refrain from hatred for men. He was bent on proving to her that not all men are the same.
For the first time she felt something deep that was missing in her life. She couldn’t explain it.
Bayo had won her heart but she didn’t want to show it. Her vulnerability had done more harm than good to her in the past.
“Mandy, I love you. I want us to be more than friends.” Bayo said.
“I have been let down in the past. I’m not ready to go over this again. Love is just a fairy tale.”
“Give me a chance to prove my undying love to you. I want to show you a part you’ve never seen.” He insisted.
“I’ll think about it.” She said.
“I’ve heard that line a lot in Nollywood. It always ends with a 'yes'. Just say yes joor!” Bayo joked.
She burst into laughter.
“Bayo! Can’t you be serious for once? You always find a way to make me laugh.”
“Ok, Let me show you how serious I am. Just wait here.” He said.
He ran back into the shopping mall and returned in 15mins.
As he approached her, He knelt down and brought out a ring. She was shocked.
“Mandy, will you marry me?” Bayo said as he gave her those puppy dog eyes.
A large crowd gathered shouting, “Say yes! Say Yes!”
She looked around and saw several people recording with their phones.
‘If I accept, all the feminists I have influenced will come after me, and If I reject, It would destroy Bayo who has shown nothing but true love. Besides, It will make it to instablog and twitter.” She thought.
If you were in her shoes, what would you do?
She was in a total state of confusion.
If I end it here, You guys will ask twitter to suspend my account. Let me just continue.
Should I?
LET'S CONTINUE.
don't mind me.
She knelt down beside Bayo. “Which kind wahala be this. Someone cannot play with you Bayo.” She whispered.
“I have never been this serious in my life. Mandy, will you marry me?”
Bayo kept a straight face.
She could see the seriousness on his face.
“Yes.” She replied.
The crowd rejoiced. Bayo slipped the ring and hugged her passionately.
It was the biggest yes she said in her life.
She couldn’t believe those words left her mouth.
At home her parents rejoiced.
“At last! My enemies have been put to shame.” Her mum rejoiced on seeing the engagement ring.
Introduction date was fixed.
She logged into twitter.
She received 99+ notifications.
As she read through, she received all forms of insults from other feminists.
She closed down her account.
How other feminists waited for her.
Introduction day.
Amanda stepped into the parlor to welcome Bayo’s family when she saw a familiar face seating beside Bayo.
She was shocked.
It was seyitan. The girl who took her to where she terminated the pregnancy.
“Mandy, meet my sister. She just completed her masters abroad. Her name is…”
“Hello Seyitan.” Amanda cut in.
“You know each other?” Bayo said in surprise.
Seyitan’s reaction.
“Amanda, of all the men in this world, It’s my brother you choose to be with.” Seyitan said sternly.
“What is going on?” Bayo asked.
“Have you told him?” Seyitan asserted.
“Told me what.” Bayo asked in confusion.
Amanda kept mute.
“Don’t worry I’ll tell everyone.”
If you were in Seyitan's shoes, what would you do?
Seyitan walked into the parlor where all the guests were seated.
Amanda begged as she ran after her.
Bayo had no idea.
“I have news for you. This wedding cannot hold.” Seyitan announced to both families in the parlour.
Bayo’s reaction.
“Are you alright?” Bayo’s father thundered.
“Yes Daddy, I am very alright. I will not let my brother marry a murderer.”
“Murderer?” Both families chorused.
Bayo was shocked.
Amanda wished the ground would open.
“My beloved daughter will never do such. Infact she's still a virgin.” Her dad defended her.
“Rebaka-Shiko-robo! Amanda! Explain yourself.” Her mum screamed
“Mandy, Did you do it? please don’t lie to me.” Bayo asked softly.
“Yes. I’m sorry.” She said.
Her mum fainted.
Her Dad lost consciousness.
Amanda fell into a serious state of depression.
She knew this was the last straw, she had let her family down.
Suicidal thoughts clouded her mind.
Bayo was still in shock. He wished she had told him.
He remembered his promise to her.
Bayo rushed to her house. He knocked severally. There was no reply.
He peeped at the window and saw Amanda attaching a rope to the hook of a fan.
He forced the door open and met her on a stool.
“Amanda, why are you doing this to yourself?”
“I have to end it, I’m tired of life.”
“I have forgiven you no matter what you’ve done. I’m here for you.” He assured.
Her face brightened up.
”I don’t think you can forgive me.”
“Tell me everything you’ve done. I promise not to judge you.”
She narrated everything to him.
Bayo felt her pain.
“The society we live in is filled with hypocrites. I am ready to stand by you no matter what.” Bayo assured.
She was amazed at the level of assurance.
Bayo and Amanda, eloped to the US and did a secret wedding Without interference of both families.
