On #myspoons today I want to talk about other people's expectations & ableism about your symptoms.
The ones that plague me the most are #fatigue & #chronicpain. I went from writing 1800 words an hour, up to 4x daily?
To falling asleep while writing a single tweet. & Still needing at least 5 minutes of rest after sometimes.
That's not every days or all day but it happened often enough that I let go of fixing typos if the context will supply the meaning.....
And put both brain fog and typos and my health issues in my profile.
I also took up voice to text. It can't drag and drop a GIF for you on your phone, or figure out where your ALT text goes. Nor can it go back and fix typos.
Voice to text is a handy workaround when you are too fatigued to type. You can use @buffer to stagger your tweets when you don't want to bombard the timeline.
It works so well, in fact, that you may find other people's expectations a bigger problem.
People see me tweeting and assume I am full of energy, free to chat, and correct typos.
They don't see me taking three days to make a tweet.
#AbledAllies - you need to understand that you have no clue what we're going through.
I may have tweeted a thread two minutes ago and, added on to it 37 seconds later.
But I may be too exhausted to function seconds later.
And before you tweet me about a typo or start a conversation?
Maybe say something that shows you care for me beyond my emotional labor or your need for my words to be perfect.
I'm not saying typos aren't important. I may not be getting freelance editing work because of my typos here.
And I generally try to spell and type well.
#AbledAllies? Read up on #brainfog and #fibrofog. As I compose a tweet the fog can make me forget what I'm typing as I type.
So I type fast before I forget. But that's not the half.
As I'm typing, if I'm in fog, I may be seeing the words I meant to type & not what's there. Yes I'n also mildly dsylexic.
& Hoping that is spelled correctly.
#AbledAllies, sometimes I'm exhausted. If a typo wasn't important to meI'll let them go.
Not to mention? Fixing that typo might mean delaying a trip to the bathroom for an hour.
Yes, sometimes it's that deep.
Anyway that's what's up with my spoons RightNow:.
I have energy for conversation but I'm working on sleep. So I gotta hang up for now.
