4 years ago tomorrow (July 17, 2014), Malaysia Airlines Flight #MH17 was shot down by the Russian 53rd Anti-Aircraft Missile Brigade, killing all 298 men, women and children aboard. #TreasonSummit#HelsinkiSummit
Not an auspicious beginning.
• Kremlin describes very different agenda than Trump
• Trump makes no mention of election interference in his opening remarks
• congratulates Russia on the World Cup – but not the winner, France
Neil Cavuto of Fox Business calls Trump's press conference "disgusting": "That sets us back a lot." #BlameAmericaFirst#TreasonSummit
"My people came to me, [Director of National Intelligence] Dan Coats came to me, some others, they said they think it's Russia. I have President Putin. He just said it's not Russia. I don't see any reason why it would be"
.@SpeakerRyan: "There is no question that Russia interfered in our election & continues attempts to undermine democracy here and around the world .. The president must appreciate that Russia is not our ally. There is no moral equivalence between the US and Russia." #TreasonSummit
Former US ambassador to NATO @RNicholasBurns, testimony before SSCI 6/28/2017:
"Trump continues to deny the undeniable fact Russia launched a major cyberattack against the US. He has taken no action whatsoever, and that's irresponsible." #TreasonSummit
Former US Ambassador to Russia & deputy Secretary of State William Burns: "I think that press conference was the single most embarrassing performance by an American president on the world stage that I've ever seen" (h/t @lrozen) #TreasonSummitsnappytv.com/tc/8491399/595…
"Trump stood next to Putin and publicly challenged the conclusion of his own intelligence agencies that Moscow interfered in the 2016 election, wrapping up the summit with an extraordinary show of trust for a leader accused of attacking American democracy" nyti.ms/2Jp88Vz
"No negotiation is worth throwing your own people and country under the bus." @HuntsmanAbby
"So disorienting was Trump’s performance that at times it fell to Putin to try to cushion the blow.
When a reporter asked if Trump had objected to Russia's annexation of Crimea, Putin answered that of course he had objected. Trump stood by in silence" nyti.ms/2Jsk6h3
"Before the entire world, the self-styled tough-guy, America-First President revealed himself to be Vladimir Putin’s poodle." #TreasonSummit nydn.us/2NmOcF0
Chris Wallace elicits a confession.
"Was it forgery of facts? That is the important thing: was this any false information? No .. they hacked an email account & there was information about manipulations to favor 1 candidate ..the party leadership resigned"
Chris Wallace: "Why is it that so many of the people that oppose Vladimir Putin end up dead or close to it?" 💣 thehill.com/homenews/news/…
"They actually had it as surprisingly substantive conversation. We heard none of it in the press conference”
Putin tells Russian state TV that Trump gave him a 'very interesting offer' on Ukraine and discussed getting around sanctions (h/t @o_ukua) rawstory.com/?p=1315663
Yet again, the Kremlin is first out of the gate to define the narrative of the #HelsinkiSummit: first a deal on Ukraine and sanctions relief (#pt), now a US-Russia military agreement
By my count, that's at least 13 times that contacts between Trump and Russian officials & the substance of those interactions were disclosed by the Kremlin.
The abiding question: why the obsessive secrecy, if there's nothing untoward?
Trump, reading from prepared remarks, under duress, and with mandatory equivocations:
"In a key sentence in my remarks, I said the word ‘would’ instead of ‘wouldn’t.'"
The sentence should’ve been, ‘I don’t see any reason why it wouldn’t be Russia.’ Sort of a double-negative. I think that probably clarifies things pretty good by itself.” 🤦
This is what was edited out of the official White House transcript: Putin wanted Trump to win.
Reporter: “Did you want President Trump to win the election and did you direct any of your officials to help him do that?”
Putin: “Yes, I did. Yes, I did."
This was edited out of the official White House transcript: Putin wanted Trump to win – & helped him do so.
Reporter: “Did you want Trump to win the election and did you direct any of your officials to help him do that?”
Putin: “Yes, I did. Yes, I did."
Putin’s offer of an investigative quid pro quo (which Trump called “an incredible offer"): the 12 GRU officers in Mueller's indictment for @BillBrowder, architect of #MagnitskyAct sanctions.
As @leonidragozin observed, Trump nodding along is troubling
"A UK-based financier who led a global human rights crusade against the Kremlin that has resulted in sanctions against numerous Russian officials, @BillBrowder is a source of deep frustration for Putin, who has gone to great lengths to shut him down" nytimes.com/2018/07/16/wor…
The first part of the reporter's question has been left out, leaving the impression that Putin is referring to aiding Mueller in questioning the GRU officers.
In its attempt to cover up this incriminating exchange, the White House went to the extraordinary lengths of altering the video.
News outlets that used the official transcript and video (including @nytimes and @guardian) unwittingly perpetuated the fraud.
Too bad the White House won't deign to answer to the American people, or a journalist might be inclined to ask why the official transcript and video of the #HelsinkiSummit was altered.
Does James "Slice and Dice" O'Keefe III work there now? #TreasonSummit
“Just remember, what you are seeing and what you are reading is not what’s happening"
#Maddow exposes the deceptively edited White House transcript of the Trump-Putin presser, removing the question asking Putin if he wanted Trump to win the election /1
As #Maddow demonstrates, the White House also altered the official video to remove the question about whether Putin wanted Trump to win.
Interestingly, the Kremlin's transcript also deleted this inconvenient question (and even more problematic answer) /2

Turkey has concluded that Jamal #Khashoggi, a prominent journalist from Saudi Arabia, was killed in the Saudi consulate in Istanbul earlier this week by a 15-member Saudi team sent “specifically for the murder" washingtonpost.com/world/middle_e…
"#Khashoggi visited the consulate to obtain documents related to his upcoming wedding.
The killing, if confirmed, would mark a stunning escalation of Saudi Arabia’s effort to silence dissent, rounding up clerics, business execs & women’s rights advocates"
"The initial assessment of the Turkish police is that Mr. #Khashoggi has been killed at the consulate of Saudi Arabia in Istanbul. We believe that the murder was premeditated and the body was subsequently moved out of the consulate." reuters.com/article/us-sau…

"A report by Washington Economics Group, whose clients include businesses like Nascar, projected that automatic restoration of voting rights would lead to $365 million/year in gains for Florida's economy, from lower prison costs and increased productivity"
Amazing statistic: the recidivism rate for people who had their voting rights automatically restored under Gov. Crist is 12.4%, vs a state average of 30%.
Also noteworthy: Charles and David Koch's network has declared support for Amendment 4.
.@nycsouthpaw: When career prosecutor Rachel Mitchell asked #Kavanaugh about his drinking & the July 1 party where Judge and Smyth were in attendance – a key date that aligns with Ford's account – Republican senators then came to his rescue and benched her yahoo.com/news/kavanaugh…
Trump says he rejected a one-on-one meeting with Justin Trudeau at the #UNGA, threatens tariffs on Canada auto exports: "We're going to tax the cars coming in, and we'll put billions and billions into our treasury .. Canada has treated us very badly"
Aside from his economic illiteracy (Americans pay the tariff, not foreign exporters), his personal animus towards Trudeau and Canada – neighbors, close allies, brothers and sisters – is senseless and destructive.
