THE FEMINIST

She opened the door.
“Femi!” Amanda screamed.
“Why are you acting surprised, What you couldn’t give me, I got it elsewhere.” Femi retorted.
She pulled the bedsheet to reveal the lady hiding her face. Behold it was Funke her best friend.

Issa thread.
Amanda Coker was raised in a christian home. Her father was the G.O of Temple of life ministries. Being a youth leader in church, she lived an exemplary life for youths to emulate. Her goal was to preserve her virginity till marriage.
Femi was a first timer in church. Amanda welcomed him. His smile left her spell bound. She felt a strange feeling she had never felt before.
“Sweet Jesus, he’s good looking.” She thought to herself.
“I’m Femi and you’re”
“Amanda.” She grinned.
she lost her home training in a flash.
Weeks later, during the church's youth camp Femi approached Amanda and Funke at the refectory.
“Hey ladies, would you mind if I join you?”
“Sure.” they agreed.
His funny Nature attracted them. In no time he got them laughing. Amanda Couldn't resist clinging to him at every joke.
That night Amanda couldn’t sleep.
“I have a crush on brother Femi” She confided in funke, Her best friend.
“Femi is a nice guy. I believe you guys would make a perfect match.” Funke assured.
The next day, after morning devotion Femi approached her, They exchanged numbers and left.

In no time they became very close friends. From long conversations to regular visits, they grew from casual friends to a relationship. They agreed to keep it godly.
A month into the relationship.
Femi, Began pressuring her for sex.
“I am an example to many youths in church. I can’t engage in such an ungodly act.” She said.
“We can ask God for forgiveness once we’re done.” Femi assured.
“I can’t believe you said that.” She retorted.
Everything went smooth until now.

She was rooted to the spot seeing her beloved Femi and Funke on bed.
She wished it was a bad dream she could wake up from, but this was reality staring at her.
What shocked her was the fact that Femi felt no remorse.
She cried for days. It was her first heartbreak.
She picked up the pieces of her life and moved on.
Years later she graduated and was posted to Adamawa for her NYSC.
The Boko haram insurgency had just started.
Her camp was attacked. As the corpers tried to escape many were killed. Amanda was running to the military base when a firm hand grabbed her.
Her mouth was covered to prevent her from screaming.
“Shh!” The male voice said.
she heaved a sigh of relief when she realised he was a corper.
Other corpers running to the military base were shot at, none survived.
“That would have been your fate. they’ve taken over the camp. We need to hide here.” He said.
They hid there till the next morning.
When everything was calm they stepped out. At this time the armed forces had stepped in.
She looked at her knight in shinning armour to thank him.
He was 6foot tall, well built and handsome looking.
“Thank you for saving me. I’m Amanda and you’re?”
“Chima he said.”
He turned to leave. Amanda ran after him.
“I don’t know anywhere here. Please let me stay with you.”
“Sure, You may fall victim again. Abuja is a safe place, that’s where I’m headed till the crisis ends.”
They arrived late at Abuja.
They lodged in separate rooms at the hotel.

That night, flashes of the attack scared her. She couldn’t sleep.
A knock on Chima’s door was enough to wake him up.
“I’m scared. Can I put up with you tonight?”
Chima let her in.
Being a gentleman he let her sleep on the bed while he slept on the floor.

She felt guilty for inconveniencing him.
“I don’t mind sharing the bed with you.” She said.
He joined her on bed. It was a cold night.
Her sleep was interrupted by a gentle caress down her thighs. As she turned, He planted a kiss down her neck.

She felt a sensation she couldn’t resist. She battled with it but her wetness gave her in.
A little stroke on her nipples was enough for her to loose grip of her self.

Like Pepsi, she asked for more.

Brethren, Samankwe was in session.

It was a little painful initially but the pleasure overshadowed her.
The next morning she woke up in guilt. She couldn’t believe she broke her virginity with a man she barely knew 24hrs.

News from NYSC informed all corpers in the affected states to redeploy to their states to continue service with immediate effect.

Her and Chima parted ways.
She arrived Lagos, and did everything to forget about the incidence with Chima.

3 months had gone by and she hadn’t seen her period. She was getting worried.

She decided to do a pregnancy test.
Behold she was pregnant.
It was difficult to believe. She remembered she left angrily without getting his contact. She had no idea of his whereabouts.

She headed to the NYSC secretariat to make enquiries.

“Sir my brother served in Adamawa, I want to find out if he survived the attack.”
“After 3months? What family does that?”
She kept mute.

“What’s his Name?”
“Chima.”

“What’s his surname?” The aggressive man asked.
Amanda was dumbfounded.

She remembered seeing his state code clearly written on his shirt.

Thank goodness she could remember it.

She called out his state code. Voila, his details popped up.
“He survived.” He said wryly.

“Thank goodness” Amanda faked excitement.
“Please how can I reach him? His number is not going through.”

“He redeployed to Anambra. His current PPA is at christ the king college, Onitsha.”
Amanda left in a flash. She arrived Onitsha and headed straight to his school the next morning.

After assembly she saw Chima enter a class.
“Chima!” She called out.
He was surprised to see her.
“Hey! what is that your name again?” He said.

So he even forgot my name. She thought to herself.

“Amanda.” She managed to say.

“What brings you here?” He asked.
“Chima, I’m pregnant. What will we do now?”
Chima’s reaction.
“Yes. We.”
“As far as I am concerned, I’m not responsible for that.” He asserted.
Amanda was shocked. She couldn’t believe her ears.
“You had sex with me.” She asserted.

“Did I force you? I was on my own when you brought your horny self to me.” He defended himself.
“Besides, we had it just once. What makes you think I released in you. I knew there was something fishy when you carried yourself to me. Go and meet the father of that bastard.”
Chima wasn’t ready to accept responsibility.

"I am finished." She wailed.
She arrived Lagos with a heavy heart.

She thought of what to do next.

Her mum was the last person to confide in.
Her no nonsense attitude and Holy ghost filled mentality would not take it lightly.
She had watched how her Mum handled her brother over little issues.

Telling her about this was like a death sentence.
She approached her dad.

“Daddy, I have something to tell you.”
“My dear, I’m busy. We can discuss after service.”
At church, Her Dad’s preaching was centred on sexual immorality.

“My daughter is an example of a virtuous woman.” He bragged.
The church applauded her.

Amanda feigned a smile.
After service she was deep in thought as her dad drove home.

“Dear, you wanted discussing something with me.”
“I just wanted to Thank you for raising me the right way.” She lied.
Different thoughts clouded her mind, she was scared the pregnancy would show if she didn’t act quickly.
She called Seyitan, a typical runs girl she gave up trying to convert back then in school. They were room mates.

Seyitan was everything she didn’t want to be. Despite Their differences, they still communicated frequently.
“Hello Seyitan, I need your help.” Amanda begged.
“What is it? If it’s about church count me out.”
“No, I want to do an abortion.”
“Abortion?” Seyitan Screamed
“Yes. Abortion.” Amanda repeated.
Seyitan couldn’t believe what she heard.
“How the mighty has fallen.” Seyitan remarked
She took her to a private hospital.
The process was painful. In less than 2 hours the deed was done.
Seyitan promised to keep it a secret.

“My sins are increasing. What have I done to myself?” Amanda thought in guilt.
She Moved on with her life. It was a lesson learnt the hard way.

Years later she secured a Job at an auditing firm.
It was her first day at work. She was nervous.
“Welcome Amanda, I’m Josh, your team lead.” Josh gave her a quick tour around the firm.
Josh helped her fit in.
He was always ready to offer assistance on and off work.

Though he was a fire brand christian, Amanda was always careful around him. She knew he was interested in her, but past experiences guarded her heart.

He did everything to prove he was different.
“Amanda, what more should I do to prove I love you.”
“I’m just being careful.” She said
“Just give me a chance.” He begged.
With time she was able to trust him.

For the first time she had a male friend who valued her for who she was other than a sexual object.
She felt very free and could tell him anything. She admired the fact he was very understanding.
After an overwhelming single’s fellowship which centred on communication, Josh fixed a date at their favourite spot.

She believed it was time to let him know her deep down secret.
Should she tell him?
“Josh, there’s something I need to tell you.”

Josh’s reaction.
“I hope you’ll understand with me.”
“I’m always here for you. Tell me.”

She narrated her incident with Chima.
“So where’s the Baby?” He asked.

“I terminated the pregnancy to save my dad’s reputation.” She replied
Josh’s reaction.
Josh’s countenance changed. Amanda noticed it. She held his hands.
“It took time for me to forgive myself, please bear with me.” She begged.

Josh's reaction.
“I can’t marry a murderer.” Josh thundered.

His final remark.
Those words hit her hard.

“Josh, I’m sorry.” She begged as tears flowed freely.
As Josh rose from the table a little box slipped out of this breast pocket.

It fell on the floor and an engagement ring rolled out.
Josh angrily picked the ring and left.

She realised she was few minutes from getting engaged when she spilled her secret.
It was a bitter pill to swallow. She fell into a serious state of depression.

She believed her mistake was a scar she would carry for the rest of her life.
She Developed an irrevocable bitterness for men.
She actively humiliated men on social media platforms. #menarescum
Many women blindly joined her cause.

They believed she fought for gender equality.
Unknown to them, it was a pure hatred for descendants of Adam.

THE SCAR

I was pinned to the ground. I watched them take turns on me. 4 of them. My pubic region hurt badly. I closed my eyes awaiting death to lay its icy hands on me. But life was keen to show me a side I never wanted to experience.

"Yes mum. I've heard many bad stories about men."
"What can you say of your dad?"

Bayo had just been transferred to Calabar to manage a new branch of his firm. Despite the promotion he felt lonely and sad. Distance had separated him from Bolanle - the love of his life:
He rented a 2 bedroom apartment at the heart of Calabar. Marian to be precise.
He loved everything about the City. It was cool, calm, Clean and green unlike the Lagos hustling and bustling of people.
