I find this very odd that the anti-muslim #GOP would want to put even more money into charter schools. But despite their rampant xenophobia, they seem to love mother #Russia
So I guess they are ok with Gulen charter schools in #Florida
Everyone has their price. #VoteNoOn8
The state of Georgia is getting rid of these corrupt schemes while #Florida is opening the floodgates.
Why? Nearly 40% of Florida politicians have financial interests in charter schools.😒 #Corruption sun-sentinel.com/opinion/fl-op-…
"Private operators wanted a piece of the taxpayer pie. So they lobbied the politicians, who portrayed traditional schools as failures — and then slapped so many mandates on them that parents would flee. It worked."
WHY HAVE MANDATES?! orlandosentinel.com/opinion/os-flo…
Vote No on proposition 8.
Even though a charter might 'technically' be non-profit, SOMEONE is making a profit off it. The school might be non-profit, but the companies managing them are most assuredly for profit.
To make a profit, they cut corners... politifact.com/florida/statem…
There is little financial oversight and since charters don't have to play by the rules, parents have little recourse when things go south.

There are lot of considerations when evaluating the amendments on Florida's ballot this year. The League of Women Voters did some research and these are their recommendations. #FlaPol #Vote
Short thread.
Amendment 1 ❎
Oppose. The League has a position that “no tax sources or revenue should be specified, limited, exempted, or prohibited in the Constitution.” lwvfl.org/amendments/ame…
Amendment 2 ❎
The league opposes 2 for the same reason as 1.
Time to talk about women's reproductive health and dispel a few myths. I'm not one for long threads, so bear with me here. I have a lot of thoughts on this.
The main thing I think gets lost in partisan rhetoric is that we ALL want there to be fewer abortions. But how? #RoeVWade
A few years ago, I taught in a different school where I had many kids from El Salvador. One student in particular was quite troubled. I mean. He was a real pain in the butt. But I never sent him out of class because I'm not that kind of teacher. 1) #FamiliesBelongTogether
But other teachers were having problems with him and he ended up on the assistant principal's almost every day. He was very disruptive in their classes. Finally, the guidance counselor got permission to share his story. 2) #KeepFamiliesTogether
It turns out that this boy hid under the bed while his mother was repeatedly raped when he was 4 years old.
He witnessed his mother being raped.
Repeatedly. 3) #KeepFamiliesTogetherAct
I just wrote a letter to my congressmen using Democracy.io
It's interesting that the Democrat had the choice of using #GunControl for a topic.
For the two Republicans who pretend to represent me, I had to use #education as #GunReform wasn't an option.
(thread)
1. My letter started with:
Even Justice Scalia agreed that the 2nd Amendment does not extend to military weapons in the hands of civilians. More guns in schools just means more shootings and more deaths.
2. I continued with:
For this reason, should it come to pass that guns will be put in schools, I will tender my resignation as a public school teacher in the state of Florida. A teacher in Parkland gave his life protecting his students. #WeChoose #NeverAgain
