Like many of you, I followed the four days of hearings by the Senate Judiciary Committee on the nomination of Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court of the United States.

Here's what I learned:

@SenWhitehouse @SenFeinstein @CoryBooker #JudgeKavanaugh #RoevWade #obergefell
The Democrats in the Senate are unhinged. Their disgraceful conduct insures that future nomination proceedings will more likely be carnival sideshows of screeching protestors interspersed with Senators demanding to ask questions and refusing to allow answers w/out interruption.
Then, of course, there were individual standouts:

Sen. Booker is an ass that likes having attention paid to himself. Sen. Whitehouse is an ass that likes to accuse others of wrong-doing without evidence thereof. Sen. Feinstein is an ass that lies about abortion statistics.

THREAD: Let's say you haven't been following everything #KavanaughHearings related. Here's what you need to know: this guy is a liar and under no circumstances should he be a Supreme Court Justice.
Let me break this down because it's actually kind of astonishing the lengths Kavanaugh and Republicans have gone to conceal how right wing this guy really is. #StopKavanaugh
Republican fought to conceal secret emails that reveal his true feelings on #RoevWade. And how *does* he really feel about Roe? He believes the Supreme Court can overturn it. #StopKavanaugh

Here is a summary of what you need to know about #Kavanaugh:

1- His ruling on foreign elections interference is used by indicted Russian companies to defend themselves.
2- He received spying/mole dems info to push a bush judge. He lied about it under oath.
3- He repeated stating #RoevWade is settled law, emails show he does not believe so.
4- He said under oath he was not aware of Domestic Surveillance Programs under bush until 2005. Emails show he knew in 2001.
5- He was instrumental in stoping a detained immigrant and rape victim from getting an abortion.
6- $200K in debt got wiped clean the last few months. Who paid for it?
7- He helped Justice Roberts with the recount debacle in Florida in 2000.

My guess, he pledged loyalty to trump

.@NPRWeekend just interviewed @KSPrior, because we can never highlight enough far-right extremist views. Prior actually claimed Trump and @HillaryClinton were equivalent in their treatment of women (!!!) and applauded her students being disenchanted with the electoral system.
1/
.@KSPrior teaches at Jerry Falwell's #racist @LibertyU where last year graduates returned diplomas en masse due to Fallwell Jr's grotesque support of Trump.

Prior is touting #BrettKavanaugh to overturn #RoevWade.
2/
It was an instructive interview for the utter lack of pushback by @NPRWeekend, which replicated the same MSM trend of allowing the alt-right free range spew.

@KSPrior didn't vote for Trump, but she does, clearly, support his choices, like #BrettKavanaugh.

Trump’s allies in the Senate have made it clear: they want to strip your health care protections, jeopardize #RoevWade, & protect a corrupt, criminally-implicated President.

They’re counting on us not caring enough to stop them, and now’s the chance for us to prove them wrong.
If you care about protections for the 130 million Americans with pre-existing conditions—like Alaskan Colleen Mondor, a small business owner and cancer survivor whose son has diabetes—speak up.

Even “chipping away” at #RoevWade means deeply egregious restrictions on real rights, & enduring damage to real lives—especially women least able to afford or access care.
Ask the women of TX or those living in 22 states (not all red) about laws deterring & limiting access to abortions. With Kavanaugh’s appointment, the ‘Most Likely’ option = severe restrictions & free license for more states to follow.
Every outcome on abortion with Kavanaugh on #SCOTUS would result in women’s health & rights being fundamentally undermined. Call your Senator & share your story. #WhatsAtStake

This bodes very poorly for any decision that Kavanaugh might make to hold @realDonaldTrump accountable.
It’s also confounding that the common thread thus far in the cases Kavanaugh is willing to openly criticize is their relation to presidential power & accountability.
But because he has demonstrated a willingness to express his views on existing #SCOTUS precedents, Kavanaugh must be able to answer direct questions on stare decisis on many other matters, including #RoevWade and healthcare.

On the 170th anniversary of the Women's Rights Convention in Seneca Falls where suffragists proudly proclaimed that "all men AND women are created equal," it's sad we're still striving to achieve that vision. It's why I introduce the Equal Rights Amendment every Congress, and...
...why I proudly voted for the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act that President Obama signed into law, and continue to work to pass the Paycheck Fairness Act to bolster enforcement of our pay discrimination laws so my daughter & granddaughter don't face the same wage gap my mother did
It's why I'm working to #StopKavanaugh from joining the Supreme Court, where he will surely oppose women's equality by overturning #RoevWade, and helping religious employers deny coverage for contraception. Rallied w/ @CoryBooker @PPact @NJ_CASA this week menendez.senate.gov/news-and-event…

I’m spending a lot of time reviewing Judge Kavanaugh’s rulings to see if he has the temperament and wisdom—and whether he has shown the independence needed of our next #SupremeCourt Justice. Very disappointed by what I’m seeing:
He disagreed with, and wrote a dissent against, a court ruling that the punishment for entering this country illegally cannot be “forcing a child to have a baby”
His opinion would have allowed the government to use delay tactics to prevent women and girls from controlling what happens to their own body. Or, in other words, he drafted a (losing) legal argument that would have forced a child to have a baby acludc.org/sites/default/…

Today, I filed a resolution urging the Massachusetts State Legislature and Governor Charlie Baker to pass & sign into law the #NASTYWomenAct - a bill to scrap outdated laws banning contraception & abortion across the Commonwealth. Stay tuned at 12pm for the @BOSCityCouncil mtg!
The constant attacks on women’s rights to self-determination & safe, competent reproductive healthcare - including abortion - know no bounds. The appointment of another conservative justice to the Supreme Court threatens the critical federal protections afforded by #RoevWade.
That a deep blue state like Massachusetts still has draconian laws on the books to punish women & criminalize the right to choose is morally reprehensible & must be changed - I urge the Legislature and Governor Baker to pass the “NASTY Women” Act into law with all possible speed.

The nomination of Judge Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court is alarming & I’m strongly opposed to his confirmation. #ScotusPick
Right off the bat, this nomination couldn’t get any swampier—Kavanaugh is a partisan Republican, who worked for Kenneth Starr during the Clinton impeachment & in the George W. Bush White House.
Our next justice should be a champion for protecting & advancing rights, not rolling them back—but Kavanaugh has a long history of demonstrating hostility toward defending the rights of everyday Americans.

The President’s nomination of Brett Kavanaugh will propel our nation’s highest court in a dangerous direction for generations. He passes Trump’s anti-choice ‘litmus test’ w/ flying colors & will likely help end #RoevWade, rolling back decades of hard-fought reproductive freedoms
#WhatsAtStake? Protections for people w/ pre-existing health conditions, voting rights, workers’ rights, & LGBTQ equality. I urge my Senate colleagues to oppose this nomination.
The President should find a candidate who reflects mainstream values and respects the fundamental rights of all Americans. #SaveSCOTUS

Time to talk about women's reproductive health and dispel a few myths. I'm not one for long threads, so bear with me here. I have a lot of thoughts on this.

The main thing I think gets lost in partisan rhetoric is that we ALL want there to be fewer abortions. But how?
#RoeVWade
2) Let's start with a universal truth.

🔥Making abortions illegal does not make them less common.🔥

Ever.

#LegalSafeRare

dailykos.com/stories/2018/3… Abortion rates are not lower in places where it is illegal.
3)
Just in case you thought this was an American phenomena.

It's not.

Other countries have learned the hard way that punitive measures don't work.
#RoevWade

economist.com/international/… Abortion is as common in countries where it is illegal as it is where it is legal.

THREAD: Body Language Analysis No. 4314: Donald Trump, The Supreme Court, Abortion, and Punishment - #Nonverbal & #EmotionalIntelligence • • #BodyLanguage #BodyLanguageExpert #AbortionRights #Abortion #Punishment #SupremeCourt #RoevWade
1/ In the light of Associate Justice Anthony Kennedy's announcement of his retirement from the Supreme Court, the interview included here is profoundly important. In March 2016, Chris Matthews spoke with then-candidate Trump in a town hall type setting.
2/ One of the questions Mr. Matthews pressed Mr. Trump on was that of abortion - and specifically, because Trump believes abortions should be illegal - what was his view on the issue of punishment for women who undergo abortions?

We really need to talk more about #abortion as an option for women.
It's hard to say this and hard to hear it for many, but just because you discover you are pregnant doesn't mean you must carry that pregnancy to term. Your decision will last the rest of your life--and the rest of the life of any child you decide to carry to term.
#abortion
And no, I am not advocating #abortion.
I'm advocating thinking about parenthood & all it entails.
Because once you have a child, you can't just walk away from that life.
And women/girls are talked into maintaining pregnancies every day.
More discussion would change that.
