I don't think men really understand how different it is to be a woman out in the world and how quickly things can turn dangerous.
When I was living in New Orleans, I was walking home from work one night. It was fall--dark early & foggy.
A man came out of the fog toward me.
He said hi, I said hi.
As he started to pass me, he asked me if I had the time.
I looked at my watch, looked up, he had a gun pointed at me.
He hit me so fast I wasn't able to steel myself.
I fell to the ground.
He said, "I could rape you right now, but I don't have time."

The majority of the working class in America is women and POC.
And white men as a group haven't voted majority Democrat since 1964--they stopped after LBJ signed the the #VRA.
Flip the narrative and start listening to the ACTUAL working class--the rest of us.
O'Rourke is fine. He is not, Harris, Gillibrand or Klobuchar.
▪Gillibrand is Congress' leader on women's rights & sexual assault victims.
▪Harris set NN2018 on fire with her speeches reclaiming identity politics.
▪ Klobuchar highlighted #Kavanaugh's unfitness for SCOTUS.

I lived in NOLA right after college.
I drank most every day, as did everyone I knew.
We were all in the domestic Peace Corps, all in our early 20s, all hardworking activists with stressful work.
We drank too much at Mardi Gras, New Year's.
It's absurd to claim #Kavanaugh didn't.
Those of us who've had alcoholics in our lives--like Klobuchar--tend to be careful about alcohol because we've been damaged by the drunks in our lives. I'm a control freak, so never liked being drunk, but lots of my friends did. What IS true, is most 20somethings drink to excess.

Let's talk about sex, #Kavanaugh & Venn diagram overlap of male entitlement.
I've written a lot about sex in various contexts. In the late 80s/early 90s I also gave safe sex workshops back when folks my age were dying 24/7 from #AIDS. My 1st book was on juvenile prostitution.
Most of us know consensual and non-consensual sex differ. The entirety of #Kavanaugh's defense and his defenders' outrage is predicated on the presumption that no teenaged boy knows what consent is.
Some, like their adult counterparts, don't care.
This is key.

I gotta tell you, folks, I have been so sick for the past 2wks, I have really been scared.
Sept 22 House GOP passed their new cuts to Social Security Medicaid and Medicare out of committee. $1.2T in cuts.
That's the safety net.
I've always hoped I could fall there. No more.
I had to call my bestie today to have her come up and stay with me while The Wife is teaching.
Even with the oxygen, hard to breathe.
I had to cancel interviews for tomorrow, a radio appearance for Friday.
Chronic illness like #cancer is incapacitating at times.

FFS. @onthemedia just aired a long exchange of @JHockenberry's editor explaining JH couldn't really do damage to the women he sexually harassed since he's in a wheelchair!
Using #disability to excuse sexual harassment FOR WHICH JH WAS FIRED is outrageous. I'll explain why.
First, like @JHockenberry, I am also paralyzed and in a wheelchair. And myriad studies have shown women who are #disabled are more likely to be sexually harassed and assaulted than non-disabled women. There is, in fact, also, an entire porn culture around women in wheelchairs.

The worst part of these white and Latina GOP women saying these things is NOT ONCE did they offer concern about any victim of sexual assault.
The woman in the turtleneck, Lourdes, said she thought Kavanaugh had likely dumped Ford and she was getting back at him.
Am I the only woman in America who doesn't want every teenaged boy labeled a rapist just so #BrettKavanaugh can be exonerated?
This is what Republicans--especially women--are now claiming. "All boys do this at 17."
I vehemently disagree.
The roundtable of white and Latina @GOPwomen on @AC360 was shocking. No concern whatsoever for young women or Blasey Ford and a disturbing dichotomous standard that it both doesn't matter what one does at 17 and "all boys do this."
All of this is deeply wrong.

The @WSJ editorial board just dropped Tuesday's editorial.
It is searing.
They describe #ChristineBlaseyFord's discussion of the #Kavanaugh assault as "an effort to save a failing marriage."
It does not get better after that.
"If Republicans panic now their own voters will rightly be furious. They would be letting Democrats get away with the same dirty trick they tried and failed to pull off against #ClarenceThomas."

This thread (& Fairbanks' piece) gobsmacked me.
When I was old enough to work--14--I was thrilled that I could buy new clothes. Up till then all my clothes were from a thrift store or handmade by our mother. To this day I can't cross the threshold of a thrift shop.
When you are actually poor--as opposed to pretending--you pretend NOT TO BE POOR. You pretend your clothes are new, not from a thrift store. And then one day a group of girls from your school see you in THEIR OLD CLOTHES and you are humiliated forever. The laughter follows you.

Universal scorn for this jejune piece which reminds me of things I said as a junior high student being raised in an activist Socialist household.
Sometimes one should read and educate one's self rather than just talk to hear one's own voice. Sanders should try that.
It is unsurprising to me that black and female activists are eyerolling this piece which is another version of Sanders' "big banks! oligarchs!" stump speech from 2016. The only new item here is a brief insertion of Trump--who many feel Sanders enabled into office.

#HillaryClinton was First Lady, senator, Secretary of State, 1st woman nominee of a major political party & won more votes than anyone in US history except Obama 2008.
Texas board votes to eliminate Hillary Clinton from history curriculum dallasnews.com/news/education…
One of the many reasons this erasure of @HillaryClinton from textbooks matters is because Texas is the main purveyor of textbooks in the US.
She's being erased in all 50 states.

There is a veritable news blackout on the MA explosions. @CNN is 100% #Florence (not that it's not a major story) and @maddow is Manafort.
Local Boston news reports evacuations throughout Lawrence, South Lawrence, Andover, North Andover, Merrimack. All schools will be closed.
Although initial reports asserted the explosions were related to Columbia Gas, expanded reports required evacuations no matter what gas company was used.
There were, at 9pm EST, more than 70 fires reported. 38 Fires extinguished in Andover alone, with 17 additional gas leaks.

This is the strangest story of the night.
It's hard to understand how this is happening all over the city rather than on contiguous blocks.
Waiting for real details to be revealed because this map is hard to explain.

#RubyBridges was the subject of this iconic painting by #NormanRockwell, "The Problem We All Live With," which memorialized her integrating the William Franz elementary school in New Orleans.
She turned 64 Saturday.
That's how close we are to #JimCrow. #RubyBridges was six when US Marshals flanked her as she became the first black child to enter the all-white school.
Like Christopher Robin in House at Pooh Corner, if you need perspective on how small six is.
Today she is 64.
What a hero.

My friend @sunnysingh_n6 has been deconstructing #India's extraordinary 400+ (!!) page ruling granting civil rights to gay people. Read her measured, thoughtful exposition here.
This is a treatise for global civil rights for those of us who are #LGBTQ. The world must take note.
Ha! Mrs. Warwick meets with a distraught Sylvia and decides Sylvia and her school are deserving of support. She tells off her white friend. She decides to give a hige sum to the school. #WithinOurGates#TCMParty
Meanwhile, Mr. Gridlestone is just like Trump. Seething and hating black achievement.
